Bottom Line

The 250-room Decameron Isleno is an upper-middle-range all-inclusive resort situated across from a lovely beach in Punta Hansa. It's so close to the airport that some guests walk instead of taking a cab. Rooms are sunny and bright, and come with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and safes. All have furnished balconies or terraces, and some have beautiful views of the beach. Meals are served buffet-style in the restaurant, and there are three stylish bars as well, including one by the pool. Among its pluses is a huge outdoor pool complex with sections for adults and kids, plus a whirlpool area. The spa offers outdoor massage services, and there are daily activities as well. This is the best of the Decameron properties on the island, but its rates are highest, too.

Scene

Bright, open property with colorful artwork and furniture throughout, suitable for all sorts of guests

The bright, open lobby sets the tone for this large property, which is colorful and vibrant throughout. The huge lobby, filled with vivid light fixtures, art, and furniture, provides a great space where guests can hang out. Unfortunately, the check-in process can sometimes be long, so guests may be hanging out waiting to check in. Other times, they may be just enjoying the cheerful atmosphere and the entertainment that performs in the stylish lobby bar. This place draws families, couples, and groups, as well as business guests attending events in the conference center. It can be quite busy at times. Of all of the Decameron properties on San Andres, this one stands out the most for quality, though keep in mind that it can book out quite far in advance. Additionally, features here are exclusively open to only this Decameron's guests, unlike other Decameron properties on the island.

Location

Located in Punta Hansa, opposite lovely Spratt Bight Beach and close to the airport

This hotel is situated in Punta Hansa, opposite Spratt Bight Beach and a 10-minute walk from Aeropuerto Internacional Gustavo Rojas Pinilla (five minutes by car). While walking to an airport may sound crazy, plenty of guests staying here do just that. Guests can also walk to a shopping center in five to 10 minutes, and there are other shops within walking distance as well. San Andres town is a seven-minute drive away, and San Luis can be reached in 20 minutes by car. Johnny Cay Park can be reached in six minutes by car or 14 minutes on foot. While guests technically have access to the other Decameron properties, shuttles between them aren't provided.

Rooms

Bright, airy rooms with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, safes, and balconies or terraces

All rooms here are essentially the same, with either two double beds or a king and a sofa bed. They are sunny and bright, with hardwood floors, clean-lined gray wooden furniture, white walls, white bed linens, and colorful modern artwork on the walls. Of all the island's Decameron properties, these are by far the nicest rooms you can score. Flat-screen TVs are mounted on the walls, and other amenities include air-conditioning, safes, free Wi-Fi, and minibars on request for a fee. Bathrooms are simple and basic, with tiled walls, marble countertops, magnifying mirrors, toiletries, walk-in showers, and hairdryers. All rooms have balconies or terraces furnished with wicker tub chairs. Some have spectacular views of the beach. Keep in mind that those near the restaurants or the casino may pick up some noise in the evenings.

Features

Buffet restaurant, three bars, huge pool for kids and adults, spa, fitness center, and meeting space

This all-inclusive has a good selection of features. The Rasta Restaurant serves international buffets for all three meals. It's an open, airy space with colorful chairs and large Rastafarian statues and wall hangings. The Ska Bar also is a colorful space, and there's also a bar by the pool with a thatched roof. Another bar in the lobby has a dance floor. All meals and timed snacks are built into the all-inclusive rates, and guests can access the facilities at other Decameron properties, but must secure their own transit. A casino is also on-site. Note that features at the Isleno outpost are exclusive to guests staying here.

The huge outdoor pool includes a large adult-only space with an island complete with palm trees and lounge chairs. More lounge chairs are lined up on the deck, and lush trees and plants create a tropical ambiance. Red umbrellas shade the lounge chairs, and a couple of day beds are available as well. The kids' pool is plenty big, too, and there are lots of lounge chairs around it as well as wicker sofas and chairs where the grown-ups can relax and watch the kids. One area is shallow enough to put the lounge chairs in the water, and the hydro-massage pool also has a shallow section for chairs.

The fitness center is open and bright, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out to the tropical gardens. In addition to cardio and weight training machines, there are exercise balls, yoga mats, and free weights. Water is provided. The Zion Spa offers massage services in open huts with thatched roofs.

Among the non-motorized water sports included in the all-inclusive package are canoeing, kayaking, sea bicycling, sailing, windsurfing, and surfing. The hotel also has two beach clubs where guests can dine and hang out on the beach. The beach next to the hotel is public.

Meeting space can accommodate up to 1,400 people in a variety of configurations. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
