Bottom Line

The three-pearl Baymont Inn & Suites College Station is a modern hotel that opened in 2015 near Veterans Park and Athletic Complex and the Post Oak Mall. There aren't any restaurants within walking distance and it's farther from Texas A&M University than many area hotels, but it’s still a relatively short drive to campus. Highlights include an outdoor pool and small fitness center, and ample freebies such as hot  breakfast and coffee all day in the lobby, on-site parking, Wi-Fi throughout. Its 68 guest rooms are contemporary and attractive, with flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and mini-fridges, but there are no microwaves in Standard rooms. For larger rooms and more on-site amenities, travelers can consider the Hyatt Place College Station.

Scene

A modern, family-friendly hotel with a cozy and eclectic lobby

The hotel's lobby resembles a cozy but slightly cluttered contemporary living room with fussy accents and nicknacks. A cushy sofa faces a flat-screen TV hanging above a gas fireplace with a black granite hearth, and faux flower arrangements in a motley of colors scattered around the space. Other decorative elements including an old-fashioned popcorn machine and an eclectic collection of artworks are thrown into the mix, and small breakfast room is just beyond a set of French doors. Texas A&M University families and guests attending sporting events and  family-focused activities are most commonly seen here, and hotel also attracts some business travelers.

Location

A short drive to Texas A&M University, but no restaurants within walking distance

The Baymont Inn is located in a commercial business district in College Station. Not much is within walking distance, but it's only a seven-minute drive to Post Oak Mall, where there are several restaurants and four large department stores. It’s a three-minute drive to Veterans Park and Athletic Complex, where many soccer and other sports tournaments are hosted. It takes 13 minutes to drive into the heart of the Texas A&M University's campus and to Kyle Field where the beloved Aggies play football. Easterwood Airport and the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum are 20-minute drives. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is a two-hour drive, while Houston’s two airports take roughly 90 minutes to reach, depending on traffic.

Rooms

Modern, with coffeemakers and mini-fridges, but microwaves aren't standard

Guest rooms are modern and still fresh from their debut. They're done in warm neutral tones, with furniture that has a dark espresso finish and cream walls for a look that's polished and pulled together. There are tall headboards, sleek and attractive lighting fixtures, and desks with office chairs. Upholstered armchairs and framed prints add a splash of plum and lavender. Standards come in Double Queens and Kings, and larger Business rooms and Suites also are available. Amenities include coffeemakers, mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi, and Business rooms and Suites add microwaves. Tan marble vanities are placed outside the bathrooms, which come with shower/tub combos, wall-mounted hairdryers, and toiletries. Units are generally quiet, but some ambient noise can be heard from the hallways. Views are unremarkable.

Features

Free breakfast, outdoor pool, and fitness center, plus free parking and Wi-Fi

This three-floor, limited-service hotel offers a daily hot breakfast buffet with eggs, waffles, and breakfast meats. Free coffee and ice water also are available all day, and vending machines sell soft drinks. The outdoor L-shaped pool has plenty of space for a good swim, and there are several loungers and tables for seating on the patio. There's also a fitness center, but it's small and only equipped with one set of free weights and a treadmill, stationary bicycle, and elliptical. The hotel has a small meeting space that can accommodate 30 people, as well as a business center with a computer and printer. Guests can do their own laundry in the guest laundry room, or send it out via the hotel’s valet dry cleaning and laundry service. On-site parking is free, as is Wi-Fi throughout, though some past guests have complained about it being slow and spotty.
