  • Unbeatable views of the Mediterranean and colorful houses

  • Apartment-style rooms include kitchens and private terraces

  • Walking distance to the village

  • Front desk can arrange excursions and airport transfers (for a fee)

Cons

  • Some rooms don't have views

  • No Wi-Fi

Bottom Line

Appartamenti e Camere Edi is more like a short-term apartment rental property than a proper hotel. Edi, the property's owner, rents a variety of two-pearl fisherman style apartments overlooking the Mediterranean and fishing port of Riomaggiore. Accommodations with terraces and direct views are heartbreakingly romantic, but the worn furniture, steep steps, and lack of Wi-Fi are deal breakers for some. Still, kitchens are a nice feature and the village is within walking distance.

Scene

Tall and narrow traditional fisherman's homes on the Meditteranean

There isn't much of a scene at Appartamenti e Camere Edi as the rooms and apartments are spread out away from the basic central office. There, you'll find a white traditional cavelike room with a light wood reception desk and a few red chairs for seating. An electric fan keeps the place cool. Outside, the scene is stunning. Think: blue Mediterranean Sea, wooden fishing boats, colorful houses built into the hillside, and ancient stone walls and tunnels. Uneven and intensely steep steps are a very real part of life here, so pack light and save the stilettos for Milan.

Location

Gorgeous location is the main draw

Affittacamere Edi apartments have an amazing location on the Mediterranean Sea by the working fishing port. The views are so gorgeous that it would be easy to spend an entire day photographing the scene just outside your front door (and down a whole lot of steps). All apartments are close to the Church of San Giovanni Battista, Castle of Riomaggiore, and the Guardiola Tower. Fossola Beach is a short walk away. There isn't any designated parking available for hotel guests.

Rooms

Rooms and apartments with dated decor; the best have views of the Mediterranean

Accommodations at Appartamenti e Camere Edi vary from standard rooms to two-room apartments overlooking the sea. Each comes with a flat-screen TV, refrigerator, and hair dryer; apartment-style rooms have full kitchens and plenty of space. Bathrooms include single sinks and shower stalls. Decor varies but is generally a little old-fashioned looking with antique style furniture and linoleum floors. Book a room with a terrace overlooking the harbor and you'll probably only spend time indoors to sleep. Past guests have complained of a musty odor and some of the sofas seem to be falling apart. Cleanliness isn't an issue and housekeeping is provided. There is no Wi-Fi service. Entrances to the apartments and rooms is often through decrepit-looking stone staircases, as this part of Italy is ancient.

Features

This hotel doesn't even offer Wi-Fi.

It's very rare to come across a hotel without any features, but Appartamenti e Camere Edi comes close. The owner can arrange airport transfers for a fee and assist with excursions in the area. The apartments don't have Wi-Fi and there aren't any features like a restaurant or bar, though there are plenty of options within walking distance. Guests who stay here tend to fare well on their own and enjoy exploring without much assistance.
