A 45-minute drive outside of Chiang Mai, the two-and-a-half pearl Mai Siam Resort is a small family resort with only three bungalows. There isn't much in the area in terms of restaurants, bars, or shops, but it's a great place to unwind, and is near a hot spring and mountains. The bungalows are furnished in contemporary Thai decor, with desks, tables and chairs, king-size beds, and outdoor seating. The resort has a small dining area where they make scrumptious home-cooked meals, with many ingredients sourced from the owner's garden. There are hammocks to relax on and some other small sitting areas throughout the pleasant grounds, but little else.
Scene
Rural, remote, and serene resort with not much going on
Mai Siam Resort is a quiet rural retreat in the Thai countryside. The bungalows are mainly suited to couples, but are big enough to accommodate a family with some extra cots or mattresses put in. The only public places here to hang out are the small restaurant area and the delightful thatched salas (traditional pavilions) in the garden. Other than this, guests will be relaxing in their rooms or out touring the countryside.
Location
In the countryside, a 45-minute drive from Chiang Mai
The Mai Siam Resort is set in a serene community with ample grounds and gardens. It's about 45 minutes by car from Chiang Mai and a 40-minute drive from the Chiang Mai Highlands Golf Course. The Sankampaeng Hot Springs are a 15-minute drive away. While it might seem isolated, the owners can arrange transport and tours, and the resort also has mountain bikes available for use. Count on about an hour's drive to get to the airport.
Rooms
Three bungalows with contemporary Thai decor
There are only three bungalows at the resort, all of which are spacious and furnished with contemporary Thai decor, king-size beds, desks, tables and chairs, and pleasant outdoor seating areas. Although rooms are air-conditioned they also have fans, and bathrooms have walk-in showers and large framed mirrors hanging over the sink. The bungalows have hammocks for lounging in the garden.
Features
Lush grounds, garden with fruit trees, small restaurant with home-cooked meals, and cooking classes
While there's no pool or gym at the resort, it does have lush grounds full of fruit trees, with thatched pavilions to sit in and a few hammocks. Breakfast is included in room rates and other meals are available on request. The resort also runs cooking classes for guests who are interested.
