The 383-room Le Meridien is one of the top stays in Chiang Mai, with chic, zen-like rooms in eight categories; a location in the heart of downtown, just steps from the Night Bazaar; and superb features, including an elegant Italian restaurant, pampering spa, and modern fitness center. The hotel is one of the tallest in the city, and has outstanding views of Doi Suthep mountain from its beautiful rooftop pool (not to mention some of the rooms). The only drawbacks here come from outside of the hotel, as there is plenty of traffic in the area, and the neighborhood turns a tad seedy at night, with plenty of girlie bars and tourist hustlers around.
Scene
Chic and urban hotel catering to business and leisure travellers
The atmosphere at the Le Meridien is stylish and chic. It's one of the city's tallest hotels, and it towers over its neighbors both figuratively and literally -- few nearby hotels can compare. There are only a handful of other hotels in the same league in this neighborhood, including the Dusit D2, Anantara Chiang Mai, and Ping Nakara. From the elegant Italian dining restaurant to the lavish spa, everything looks cool and modern. The lobby bar is happening, and the downtown location means the young and young at heart can find plenty more nightlife nearby. The rooftop pool is a peaceful urban escape. Lots of business travellers and Starwood preferred guests call this spot home due to the excellent location and conference facilities, and there are also many young dapper couples.
Location
Located in the heart of downtown, just minutes from the Night Bazaar
Le Meridien is located in the heart of downtown Chiang Mai, just steps from the famous Night Bazaar. Tons of drinking and dining options are in this area, the airport is a 15- to 20-minute drive away, and one can walk to the gates of the old city in under 15 minutes. The location is ideal, although the crowds and noise of this area aren't, once one steps foot outside of the hotel.
Rooms
Chic and modern rooms, some with great views
There are eight categories of rooms at the Le Meridien, starting at 36 square meters (388 square feet). They have contemporary Asian style, with a soothing color palette of browns and creams. Amenities include flat-screen LCD televisions, ambient lighting, bathtubs, and coffeemakers (with gourmet Illy coffee in Urban Rooms and above). There are black-out drapes, but they're not remote controlled. Many rooms have lovely city or mountain views. Bathrooms are luxurious, and all but the standard Deluxe Rooms have separate tubs and rainfall showers. Many have a peek-a-boo glass wall facing the bedroom (the ones we saw like this had privacy screens). Comfortable beds have 300-thread-count duvets. Club Rooms and Suites come with club lounge privileges, which include free Wi-Fi, all-day snacks, and evening cocktails.
