Hotel des Artists Ping Silhouette

This small boutique hotel is housed in an old converted warehouse on the Ping River. It's a quiet, peaceful setting with lots of willow trees on the grounds, helping create an away-from-it-all vibe. Guests are greeted in the charming lobby that features an antique wooden reception desk and other artsy details. The decor in these public areas is just a suggestion of the bespoke style at this hotel, which helps set it apart from the many average boutique properties that pack the city center. Off of the lobby is a lovely terrace with a couple of horse statues gazing into a fish pool. A walkway leads down to the river, and the overall atmosphere is relaxing and serene. It's especially popular with couples, who find it romantic, but families and individuals pass through on occasion as well.

This hotel is situated on the east side of the Ping River away from the touristy Old City. There are a number of cafes, restaurants, shops, and other hotels on this stretch of the river, and guests can walk to the night market in less than 15 minutes. The center of the Old City, which is packed with temples, restaurants, and cafes, is about 10 minutes away by car, or just under 30 minutes on foot (you can reach the Old City's eastern side within a 15-minute walk). Plan on 15 to 20 minutes to reach Chiang Mai International Airport by car, and about 10 to 15 minutes in a taxi to reach trendy Nimmanhaemin Road on the other side of the Old City.

The hotel offers three room types: Serene, Willow, and River, although none actually have river views. They're modern, simple, and attractively decorated. Neutral gray, black, and tan color schemes are accented by tile flooring and black contemporary furniture, with just a few of the hotel's signature bespoke touches. Flat-screen TVs are mounted on the walls in little nooks, and other amenities include kettles for tea and coffee, air-conditioning, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. Willow and River Rooms add safes, and River Rooms have sofabeds. Modern bathrooms feature vintage fixtures, rainfall showerheads, decorative tiling, toiletries, and hairdryers. Toilets are in their own little rooms. Robes and slippers are provided. River Rooms have separate soaking tubs as well as showers. Furnished balconies or terraces come standard, and some have views of the willow garden. 

This little place offers a few nice features that help make it a popular boutique option in Chiang Mai. The charming Cafe des Artists has indoor and outdoor seating, and serves all meals. Inside, the space features industrial-chic decor, while seating outside is on a wooden deck with cushioned rattan sofas. There's also a lovely tea room. Breakfast is served daily, and it's included in some room packages. Selections include a choice of hot items, plus breads, jams, fruits, and cereals. The outdoor rooftop pool is a serene, relaxing, and beautiful space overlooking the willow trees. A wooden deck spans two sides, and wooden lounge chairs are shaded by umbrellas. Spa services can be arranged, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
