Campbell's Resort on Lake Chelan is an ideal spot for travelers seeking waterfront relaxation in a small town environment. The mid-range, 170-room resort has its own stretch of beach with water sports and a picnic area, along with two outdoor pools. It's been in operation since 1901, and the family-run property has become an institution in the area, attracting generations of repeat guests. It's well worth comparing rates at the nearby Lakeside Lodge and Suites, which lacks a historic backstory but has similar amenities and includes breakfast.
Scene
Relaxed lakefront resort, family-run since 1901
This resort has been owned and managed since 1901 by five generations of the Campbell family. The original building still contains the early hotel's English pub style wooden bar, and the walls have been decorated with an archive of Campbell family photos. Now five motel-style buildings plus two beach houses, the resort sprawls along eight acres of the waterfront. Business groups coming for the event facilities are as common as romantic couples, but families returning for annual holidays are the resort's main-stay guests.
Location
On the waterfront near downtown Chelan
With its back to Highway 150, Campbell's Resort on Lake Chelan is conveniently adjacent to downtown, while facing the lake on beachfront property. Chelan is surrounded by mountains with lush valleys that support numerous wineries (Tsillan Cellars, one of about 20 local wineries, is a seven-minute drive away). The Lake Chelan Municipal Golf Course is a five-minute drive from the resort, while the Echo Valley Ski Area is a 12-minute drive north. Dining and shopping in Chelan's quaint downtown is within walking distance of the property. Wenatchee, another picturesque town, is a 50-minute drive away, and the resort is a little more than three hours from Seattle Tacoma International Airport.
Rooms
Variety of room types, all with lake views
Campbell's Resort has 170 rooms in a wide range of types and layouts, spread across multiple buildings, including two-bedroom units with kitchens, family-friendly suites, and private cabins. All units have balconies, patios or decks, with lake views. Most have a retro decor inspired by the 1950s (when the first motel-style buildings were added). Earth tones complement a color palette that's dominated by baby blue, with boldly patterned carpets. Big 46-inch flat-screen TVs come standard, along with mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers. The small tiled bathrooms have shower/tub combos. Numerous upgrade options can include wet bars, full kitchens, whirlpool tubs, and fireplaces. The resort also has rustic private cabins on the bluffs with wood-burning fireplaces and two off-site houses available for large groups.
Features
Beach and water sports, two outdoor pools, full spa, restaurant with veranda, indoor and outdoor event facilities
The eight-acre resort curves along a private section of Lake Chelan's beach, where guests can find activities like volleyball along with kayaking, paddle boarding, and other water sports. Boat slips are available seasonally with advance reservations. A boardwalk cuts between the green lawn and the beach beset by picnic areas with gas grills and umbrella tables. There are also two outdoor pools and two large hot tubs accompanied by sundecks and loungers. The full-service spa offers the usual treatments along with make-up and nail services that cater to the wedding parties, which are popular throughout the summer. The lakefront makes for a natural outdoor venue that's bolstered by 14,000 square feet of event space with 12 flexible meeting rooms. For dining, Campbell’s Pub & Veranda serves upscale bar food (with varying degrees of success) in the hotel's old pub room or on an open-air veranda. There's also a casual snack bar with an outdoor terrace overlooking one of the pools.
