The Chattanoogan

This 199-room hotel feels much larger than it is thanks to its impressive and cavernous lobby. The decor is described as industrial post-modern, with exposed brick and a large stone column that encases a double-sided gas fireplace with a long black granite hearth. Large iron chandeliers hang from the second floor of the lobby that's blanketed in broad light-brown floor tiles. This space showcases original contemporary artwork that was commissioned by the hotel. The extensive display gives the quiet lobby an art gallery-like ambience. Several nice sitting areas provide a space to relax including a row of wooden rocking chairs and clusters of sofas and armchairs. The impressive pre-function area of the conference center begins at the lobby’s far side. It also has several comfortable sitting areas, and the center buzzes with business events. The large ballroom also is popular for weekend weddings and other social events.

The Chattanoogan is located on the southern end of downtown Chattanooga, in a quiet area away from the city’s central business district. It’s one block or about a five-minute walk from the entrance of the Chattanooga Convention Center. Riverfront attractions in the heart of downtown, such as the Tennessee Aquarium, are approximately four minutes driving or 20 minutes of walking. The hotel is a two-minute walk from a stop for the city’s free electric shuttle bus that makes stops throughout downtown. Depending on the time of day and stops, it takes about 15 minutes to get to the riverfront from the hotel entrance via the shuttle. It's a four-minute walk to the shops and restaurants in Warehouse Row. Several other restaurants are within a three- to five-minute walk. The Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport is a 15-minute drive, and the Volkswagen of America Group headquarters is 20 minutes by car. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga campus is a 10-minute walk, and it takes about 15 to 20 minutes of driving to access Lookout Mountain and its famed attractions like the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. Parking is not free. Valet with in-and-out privileges is available, and there is an independently-operated lot across the street without in and out access. (Guests must pay each time.)

The Chattanoogan's guest rooms are clean, well maintained, and tastefully furnished. Decor in all rooms is dark and rich with matching mahogany-colored drapes, headboards, nightstands, desks, and dressers that hold flat-screen TVs. Beige walls and two-tone grayish brown carpet give a soft backdrop. But bold colors like fuchsia and gold on decorative bolster pillows and bed throws add splashes of color, as do colorful photos of nature or Chattanooga scenes. Rooms offer ample space to spread out. Standards rooms are 350 square feet and come in king or two double bed options. Suites range between 635 and 960 square feet, giving them enough extra space to add separate living rooms with sleeper sofas, armchairs, second 32-inch flat-screen TVs, dining tables, and wet bars with microwaves, coffeemakers, and mini-fridges. Standard rooms have a mini-fridge and coffeemaker as well. In all rooms, Wi-Fi is free, but bottled water isn't. 

Bathrooms in standard rooms are average size and have a light, earth-tones color palette with tile on the floors and framing the shower/tub combos and tan granite vanities. Individual toiletries are by Gilchrist & Soames. Suites feature larger bathrooms with two-person whirlpool tubs and rainfall showers. The largest suites also have additional half-baths. Some rooms offer views of Lookout Mountain, while others overlook the hotel courtyard or streets below. 

The Chattanoogan's features focus on event guests and provide several fun extras. Three casual dining options on-site include a full-service restaurant that offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with a popular Sunday brunch. The lounge and coffee shop/cafe focuses on bistro-style sandwiches, salads, and specialty coffees. The lounge also offers daily happy hour specials and live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. Guests can take drinks to the lovely outdoor patio that has a gas fire pit. 

Guests can also indulge in various massage, salon, and body treatments at The Chattanoogan's full-service spa. It also has a sauna, steam room, whirlpool, heated indoor pool, lockers, and fitness center with a range of cardio and weight-training machines and free weights. Access to the pool, fitness center, and whirlpool is included in room rates.

There's an attached conference center with over 25,000 square feet of meeting space including an 85-seat amphitheater and the city’s largest ballroom. A business center offers computer terminals with Internet access and free printing. Free Wi-Fi is also accessible throughout the property.
