This 120-room Holiday Inn is located a little bit outside the city of Charleston’s historic downtown area, but still close enough for active guests to walk a mile to shopping and dining districts. The hotel has standard rooms with views leaving much to be desired of the surrounding neighborhood, which is under construction. Atypical for the hotel chain, a unique on-site restaurant features Southern-style cuisine made from locally sourced ingredients.

Mid-range hotel chain located in a historic neighborhood that's being revitalized
Situated on a busy corner, the hotel is a five-floor building with floor-to-ceiling glass windows from bottom to the top. The lobby is bright and modern, with dark hardwood floors, lime green boxy furniture, a mod area rug, and a funky multi-hued light fixture hanging from the ceiling. There’s a desk with several computers for guest use and a giant map of downtown Charleston on the lobby wall. Also on the main level, The Meeting Room Restaurant and Tapas Bar offers Southern-style cuisine. A heated, outdoor saltwater pool is found on the second floor with a deck that’s skinny and long, leaving little room for lounge chairs.
Location
A bit farther away from Charleston's historic sights than other properties
The hotel is located a bit away from some of the city’s more popular areas and is too far for some guests to walk; hence, many take taxis to museums, shops, and restaurants. Since the area is undergoing a revitalization, the neighborhood around the hotel can be a little sketchy after dark. Visitors should take care if travelling through the area. Guests have also complained about noisy construction. Found down the road on Meeting Street, the Charleston Visitor Center has a trolley that stops in front of the hotel building and takes guests to the city’s main tourist attractions.

Rooms are clean and modern, but views don't offer much to look at
Rooms are clean, updated, and have standard decor for most Holiday Inn properties. Features include flat-screen TVs, a mini-fridge, and coffeemaker. Bathrooms have floor-to-ceiling marble showers and tub combinations with eco-quartz vanities. Outdoor sights aren’t anything to write home about -- parking lots, warehouses, and run-down buildings -- so rooms with balconies aren’t worth the extra splurge. Rooms with a view of the pool are slightly better. Rates are typical for a mid-range property in the area.

The eatery also serves a large daily breakfast spread, featuring everything from chicken and waffles to omelets and yogurt parfaits. Room service is offered throughout the day and much of the evening.On the second floor there’s a heated saltwater pool and hot tub. The gym is equipped with weights, mats, medicine balls, and cardio machines. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property and meeting rooms are available for business travelers. The hotel only offers valet parking for a fee (no self-parking). However, there is self-parking two blocks away at the Charleston Visitor Center, with an applicable fee as well.
