Former stationer’s warehouse converted into boutique hotel
Ansonborough Inn is named
after Lord Anson of England, who was sent to Charleston in 1724 to protect the
coast from pirates and allegedly won the neighborhood in a poker game. Originally a stationer’s warehouse and dating back to 1901, the inn retains some properties of its industrial past, such as the large,
warehouse windows and exposed wooden
framework. The inn is full of charming period decor, like wooden antique pieces and lots of gilt-framed oil paintings adorning the walls throughout. Nautical-themed art decorates the atmospheric pub named after Admiral Anson, while the breakfast room is festooned with a collection of dog paintings. Outside, guests can relax on the rooftop terrace, which is skirted in potted plants and filled with patio furniture.
Location

Marion Square, a lovely six-acre park, and Rainbow Row, a stretch of 13 colorful Georgian row houses, are 11 minutes away on foot. There’s a 24-hour grocery store right across the street from the hotel and a bus stop on the corner.
