Odyssey Hotel

This contemporary, adult-only hotel is designed with couples and romance in mind. Rooms designed for two, excellent service, and stunning bay views create an intimate atmosphere. Throughout the interiors, guests are reminded of the hotel’s theme , "The Odyssey." Each guest room is named after a character from Homer’s epic poem, and the romantic restaurant is named for suitors who tried to court the hero’s wife. The lobby is lovely and contemporary, featuring dark, plush chairs and rich wood accents that pop against the otherwise bright, neutral space. Rich blue and purple lighting peeks out from the recessed ceiling, and complements ocean-themed artwork that recalls The Odyssey’s epic voyage. Grounds are limited; three leveled terraces march up the steep incline toward the building, with the pool deck at the top. Parking and the main entrance are behind the building, so most areas are accessible without a climb. 

This hotel is on the northeastern shore of Greece’s island Cephalonia, in the small village of Agia Effimia. It is outside the main village, sitting at the base of a mountain and across the street from a rocky coastline. There are a few other hotels, restaurants, and residences nearby along the coast and it is a four-minute walk into the harbor area of the village, where there are boat rentals, plenty of eateries, and some shops. There is a grocery store a nine-minute walk from the hotel. Guests in need of transportation can walk eight minutes down the road to reach a taxi stand and a bus stop. Myrtos Beach, a 20-minute drive away, is a gorgeous, natural beach nestled between mountain ranges. It is also a 20-minute drive to the port in Sami where guests can take a ferry to Ithaca or Greece’s mainland. Kefalonia International Airport is an hour’s drive away. 

Rooms at Hotel Odyssey are all similar in layout and amenities, but each has its own color palette and embellishments. They are a good size -- 430 square feet (40 square meters) -- each outfitted with a sitting area and spacious balcony looking out to sea. Elegant, minimalist decor includes a mix of modern and classic furniture, plus a few stylish accents for a lovely finish, despite some minor wear. All rooms are air-conditioned and each comes with a 19-inch flat-screen TV, minibar, and safe, but no coffeemaker. Bathrooms are large and have varying styles, though all have marble countertops and modern design elements. They're either outfitted with a whirlpool tub or a jetted shower stall. Hairdryers, robes, and slippers are provided, and free toiletries include a vanity kit and signature soap, shampoo, and shower gel. 

Features here are aimed at providing a relaxing and intimate experience for couples. The restaurant serves delicious local and international cuisine and stands out for offering table service from a menu, instead of the more common buffet option. Packages include breakfast only, half-board, or full-board. The pool and lobby bars also have snacks and light meals available. 

The pool is a pretty spot with ample loungers under white umbrellas and service from the bar. The lovely area is quiet, though limited hours means a shortened day of lounging. Across the road and down a stone staircase, a small natural beach is accessible; it is a beautiful spot despite having little sand and no sunbeds or dining options. A relaxing spa offers plenty of treatments in rooms, a sauna, whirlpool, and beauty shop. There’s also a small fitness room with modern equipment, but a fee per use. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
