The three-pearl Avithos Resort is in a quiet area located a 10-minute drive from Cephalonia International Airport. While the secluded setting means pretty garden grounds, there's nothing in the immediate surrounds and it's a 15-minute walk to the beach. The 52 spacious and contemporary apartment-style rooms are attractive, and have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, DVD players, and well-equipped kitchenettes, plus furnished balconies or terraces. Features are limited to a large pool with a separate pool for children and adjacent snack b nar, and guests can request in-room massages. It's worth considering the Porto Skala Hotel & Village Resort, which offers a few more on-site amenities, and is across the street from the beach.
Scene
Quiet, secluded hotel on beautiful, well-maintained grounds
Avithos Resort has a look and feel that is much more like an apartment complex than a hotel, with its 52 rooms spread among 17 low-rise buildings. Buildings have a Mediterranean style with tiled roofs and wooden pergolas or trellises painted blue or red. The grounds are well-kept, with beautiful gardens, cypress trees, and lots of flowers, and its secluded setting means the property is peaceful. The design throughout is mostly contemporary and simple, with primarily neutral tones accented by blues and greens. The reception area's vaulted, wood-beam ceilings give the room an airy feel, as do the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the pool in the restaurant. Despite having few on-site entertainment features and the quiet atmosphere, this hotel sees a large amount of families with children, as well as adult couples and friends.
Location
Close to the airport and walking distance to the beach
This hotel's proximity to the airport -- just a nine-minute drive from Cephalonia International -- may make some nervous about noise, but previous guests have said that it was not an issue. There's little in the immediate surrounds of the hotel, but the scenic Avithos Beach is a 15-minute walk away. A few restaurants are within a five- to 10-minute walk as well. For any farther exploring, guests will likely need a car.
Rooms
Spacious rooms with modern amenities
There are quite a few different apartment-style room types available at Avithos Resort, including some that can accommodate larger families. Many of the rooms are accented with quintessential Grecian colors of blue and white throughout the room -- think neutral wall and floor colors, white bedding, wooden furniture, and blue doors, curtains, and window frames. Sea-themed artwork is a pleasant touch, as are beamed ceilings in some. They either have a ground-level furnished terrace or balcony, with canvas folding chairs and a table beneath a wooden pergola.
Each room has air-conditioning, a flat-screen TV, DVD player, and a kitchenette. Kitchenettes have a contemporary look with attractive light-blue, mosaic-tile backsplash and white cabinets. They come with a microwave, a mini-fridge in Studios or larger fridge in Apartments, electric burners, and cooking and dining necessities. Bathrooms are contemporary, but the aesthetic varies slightly from room to room. Each provides free toiletries, a hairdryer, and a walk-in shower, plus some add a bathtub.
Features
Big pool with a separate children's pool and adjacent snack bar
The pool area of the Avithos Resort is beautiful, well-maintained, and the center of the property. Palm trees and colorful flowers surround the pool deck, and there are ample contemporary sunbeds and umbrellas throughout the space for guests to use. A separate shallow pool is available for kids. A wooden pergola provides a shaded area, and beneath it there is a cozy sectional-style wicker couch and glass-top coffee table. The poolside snack bar provides shaded seating options, too. There's no full restaurant, but the poolside bar offers cocktails, drinks, and light fare, plus a flat-screen TV. There are no spa or fitness facilities, but in-room massages can be booked. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
