Anika Island Resort is a budget-friendly beach getaway with 30 rooms fashioned from shipping containers. Rooms themselves are nothing special, though they do have flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning, and higher-category rooms add mini-fridges. Amenities are focused on tourists, with a play structure for kids, loungers along the sand, and a restaurant that serves hot items at breakfast plus local cuisine (including freshly caught seafood) throughout the day. While there's no swimming pool, the waters at the white-sand beach are calm and ideal for swimming. It's overall a decent choice for families traveling on a budget, though the Kota Beach Resort offers similar facilities at a lower rate.
Scene
Budget-friendly beach resort fashioned from shipping containers; popular with families
The Anika Island Resort is composed of a collection of shipping containers that have been converted to rooms and common areas right on a white-sand beach. It isn't much to look at from the outside, though it does attract budget travelers -- including plenty of families -- with its reasonable rates and gorgeous scenery. The lobby and restaurant share a single space, with high-beamed ceilings supported by off-white columns, marble floors, a living-room style seating area in the reception, and plenty of tables and dark-wicker chairs for those at the restaurant. Elephant statues, colorful fish figurines, and large flower bouquets add some personality.
Location
Right on a white-sand beach, a five-minute drive from the ferry port
The Anika is located on the beach, between two other beach resorts in Santa Fe and a five-minute shuttle van ride from Santa Fe Ferry Port and the beach. There aren't a ton of restaurants in the immediate surrounds, but plenty can be reached in about 20 minutes by walking south. Getting to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport involves taking a ferry across to the larger island of Cebu and then driving south. The whole trip takes at least four hours.
Rooms
Simple rooms with flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning, some with mini-fridges and ocean views
The Anika offers six types of rooms housed in converted shipping containers, ranging from entry-level Courtyard Rooms clear up to sea-facing Ocean View Rooms, which sleep up to three guests (with one double and one single bed in each room). Rooms are fairly small and have similar decor, with mustard-yellow walls, small flat-screen TVs, individual air-conditioning units inserted in the walls, and limited storage space for hanging clothes. Some of the higher-category rooms have large mini-fridges. Simple bathrooms have walk-in showers, soap, and individual sachets of shampoo and toothpaste.
Features
White-sand beach with calm waters, restaurant with fresh seafood, and free Wi-Fi
There's not much in terms of amenities at the Anika Island Resort, though most guests are here for the beach anyway. The peaceful white-sand beach has calm waters and shaded lounge areas. The property also offers a play structure with swings right on the sand in front of a couple of the rooms. The on-site restaurant, Chloe Cafe, is open from early morning through the evening and serves hot breakfast items such as eggs and pancakes, plus seafood and island fare at lunch and dinner. Servings are large and meant for sharing family-style. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and there's plenty of free on-site parking available. There's also a conference space for meetings and events that comes equipped with basic audiovisual equipment.
