Set across from San Sebastian Beach, Urh Sitges Playa Hotel's location is pretty fantastic and a six-minute walk from the city center of Sitges. While Urh Sitges Playa Hotel claims a four-pearl rating, in reality it's a three-and-a-half-pearl hotel as some of the 45 rooms are quite dated with visible wear and tear and they all lack coffee- and tea-making facilities. You’d think the hotel would be set up to make the most of its seafront location, but most rooms only have lateral sea views. The claim is probably due in part to the excellent location and a decent number of amenities like an outdoor pool, Mediterranean restaurant, and small gym. Breakfast is provided but it’s not free. The rooms at Hotel Platjador aren’t luxe by any means, but it has similar amenities, plus a free breakfast, making it a great alternative.
Scene
Charming hotel with a Mediterranean vibe in some public spaces
Urh Sitges Playa is certainly appealing from the outside with its gold and cream facade complemented by curved balcony banisters. The pool and restaurant are the most charming public places. The pool sits in a small courtyard surrounded on two sides by a lot of greenery. There's a rustic Mediterranean vibe to the restaurant which has colorful tiles and a distressed wooden bar with hints of blue in the wood and metal stools topped with blue padding. As for the interiors, the overall look is contemporary but less put-together. Sure, glossy white floors are nice and there’s lots of columns throughout, but wood paneled walls, low ceilings, and the rounded reception desk look dated. The atmosphere is relaxed throughout and the location is walkable, which appeals to mostly couples and some families.
Location
Located across from Sant Sebastian Beach, about a six-minute walk to Sitges' city center
It's hard to ask for a better location in Sitges than Urh Sitges Playa Hotel, as it sits across the street from Sant Sebastian Beach on the Sitges promenade. The hotel is surrounded on all sides by diverse dining options and is just a six-minute walk to Sitges’ city center. Art lovers will rejoice knowing that the Maricel Museum is a four-minute walk away, while the Cau Ferrat (home and study of artist and writer Santiago Rusiñol) takes three minutes to reach on foot. It’s a nine-minute walk to the Sitges train station which can take travelers to Barcelona within a 40-minute ride. It takes 25 minutes by car to reach Barcelona-El Prat Airport.
Rooms
Mix of dated and contemporary rooms with mini-fridges and furnished balconies with a lateral or full sea views
Though pictures of the hotel rooms on the website look lovely with charming bedding and cream walls, not all rooms are as up-to-date. During our visit, we stayed in one of the more dated rooms with old fashioned wooden furniture that contrasted with white tiled floors and bold orange statement walls and pillows. There was visible wear and tear in the room and bathroom. Upper level rooms are nicer in terms of style with gray or cream statement walls and fine floral bedding. All rooms have air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, safes, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges. Coffee- and tea-making facilities are not provided. The bathrooms come in varying states of modernity; some show visible rust and grime. They’re equipped with shower/tub combos, bidets, toiletries, and hairdryers. Most rooms at Urh Sitges Playa Hotel have lateral sea views from balconies, or in other words, partial sea views. Some guests have reported thin walls and bothersome noise from plumbing, other guests, or elevators.
Features
Outdoor swimming pool and Mediterranean restaurant are the main highlights of the hotel
Urh Sitges Playa Hotel has relatively diverse facilities for a hotel with only 45 rooms. Beyond the beach that’s just across the street, there’s an outdoor swimming pool set in a charming courtyard. Plants and sun loungers fill the terra-cotta tiled deck. The hotel’s Mediterranean restaurant offers breakfast in the morning that includes omelettes, pastries, and fruit -- it’s a bit pricey. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating where guests can enjoy dinner with sea views outside. The small gym isn’t very impressive with only a few mismatched cardio and weight machines facing windows that overlook the pool. A game room offers billiards, chess, and a projector to watch sports and other TV channels. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, and there’s a public computer with a printer. Pets are welcome with restriction, so guests should check with the hotel beforehand to make sure their pet qualifies. On-site parking is available for a fee.
