The 166-room Premier Gran Hotel Reymar & Spa is an upper-middle-range property overlooking the beach in Tossa de Mar. Although room decor is nothing special, and the cheapest rooms are small for the price, all units are equipped with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and minibars. Many also have balconies with panoramic sea views. The pool is pleasant and spacious, and it has a hot tub and waiter service. The restaurant offers set menus for lunch and dinner, and smaller bites and cocktails are available at the pool bar. With no entertainment program and no loud music, this hotel is a better option for those looking to relax than for party-hardy travelers. Couples wanting a smaller hotel with more character may want to compare rates at Hotel Diana, also located across the street from the beach.
Scene
Quiet hotel known for its sweeping Mediterranean views
The Premier Gran Hotel Reymar & Spa makes the most of its hillside location, with panoramic sea views from all of its common spaces and most of its rooms. Big windows let in lots of light throughout, and ample decks with lounge furniture provide ample space to unwind and take in the unobstructed views of the Mediterranean. Built in the 1980s, the hotel has been renovated several times in the last few decades, and its interiors feature a mix of old and new elements that can be a tad funky. The brown floors made with pieces of tiles in the lobby are old-fashioned, but the wood-and-frosted-glass front desk, and the more contemporary lamps somewhat balance it out. The same is true for the restaurant, which has dated floors and basic blue chairs, but the big windows offering panoramic views steer the focus away from the decor. The hotel is generally quiet, and although there is a playground and family-friendly rooms, most guests here are couples seeking some peace and quiet. There is no entertainment program and no kids’ club, and instead of loud fitness classes by the pool, the hotel offers yoga sessions in the spa.
Location
Quiet, beachfront location a five-minute walk from restaurants, shops, and bars
Premier Gran Hotel Reymar & Spa is located right across the street from Mar Menuda, the second-largest beach in central Tossa de Mar. The hotel is at the bottom of a small hill in a residential area, but there are many restaurants, bars, and shops within an easy five-minute walk. The city’s main beach can be found also less than five minutes away on foot, and there is another, smaller cove about a 15-minute walk away. Top local attractions, such as the medieval castle, the Lighthouse Museum, and the ruins of a Gothic church, are all within 15 minutes of the hotel. The property is about a 40-minute drive from Girona Airport, and about 90 minutes from Barcelona-El Prat International Airport. There is outdoor parking at the hotel for a fee.
Rooms
Clean rooms with generic decor, big windows, and free Wi-Fi; villas have full kitchens
The hotel has 166 rooms, most of them with furnished balconies and sea views. Decor is generic and a little basic for the price, consisting of simple blond-wood furniture, gray-tiled floors, and gray bed runners. Chairs in either white or colorful patchwork are contemporary touches, but the decor style is a tad uninspired. Standard Double Rooms are spacious and have balconies with either mountain or sea views, but Single and Economy Rooms are tiny at 140 and 215 square feet, respectively. Family Rooms can sleep up to four guests, and Villas have three double bedrooms, two bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, and access to a pool shared with 11 other villas. Standard amenities include free (but spotty) Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs with international channels, air-conditioning, minibars, and electric kettles. Safes are available for a fee. Bathrooms range between contemporary and basic, but all are clean and come equipped with hotel-brand toiletries and hairdryers.
Features
Mediterranean restaurant, large pool with views, spa, and fitness center
There are ample leisure-minded facilities here for a predominately couples crowd. Rates include a varied breakfast buffet that gets average reviews, especially the coffee and savory options. The restaurant also offers decent set Mediterranean menus for lunch and dinner, as well as panoramic sea views and outdoor seating. The pool is large and pleasant, with sweeping views, a hot tub, waiter service, and additional seating on a separate deck overlooking the sea. The spa is small but appealing, housing a large whirlpool with jets, a sauna, steam room, and a wide array of treatments and packages. Yoga classes are available for a fee, and the fitness center offers a great array of cardio and strength-training machines in a basement-level room. Other fitness and leisure facilities include tennis and basketball courts, table tennis, and a PADI-certified diving school. A playground for kids is by the pool as well.
