The three-and-a-half-pearl Hotel
PortAventura is a 500-room hotel in the PortAventura Theme Park in Salou. Simple, Mediterranean rooms have balconies and tile
bathrooms, and Family Rooms have fun cartoon themes. Family-focused features include free access to the
theme park and discounted entry to Costa Caribe Aquatic Park. Other perks include several on-site
restaurants, outdoor pools, and free Wi-Fi, breakfast, and shuttle rides to the city center. However,
pools are seasonal and lines at the park and front desk are long. Guests
looking for a downtown hotel away from the park should consider the Hotel
Calypso instead.
Scene
A rustic hotel with a Mediterranean fishing village theme and lush gardens
Large palm trees and a
lion’s head fountain lead to the Hotel PortAventura, a re-creation of a
Mediterranean fishing village featuring traditional white buildings with red
tile roofs. The property is sprawling, and arranged around various water features. It's designed for families with children through and through. The spacious, bright lobby is mostly functional with a bit of
wicker seating and coastal town touches such as wood beams. White tablecloths and
arched ceilings hint at a refined style in certain restaurants, while others
highlight the Mediterranean theme with fishnets, nautical artwork, and
detailed tiles. Lush plants and flowers in addition to lakes with fishing boats
and waterfalls encompass the entire property. Guests here are typically
families with younger children and the property is constantly busy -- expect waits at check-in.
Location
Inside PortAventura Park, a short drive from other attractions
The Hotel PortAventura is
within the grounds of the PortAventura Park outside of Salou. PortAventura Park has major rides, including massive roller coasters, as well as smaller adventures for younger kids. Salou has several beaches, none of which are within walking distance of the hotel. The town itself is about a 10-minute drive from the hotel, and there are all manner of tourist-friendly shops and restaurants. Salou's beaches are also a 10-minute drive from the hotel. The Reus Airport is 15 minutes away by car. Barcelona-El Prat Airport is
a one-hour drive from the hotel while getting to Barcelona’s city center takes an hour and 20 minutes. Trains from the Port Aventura train station into Barcelona take about the same amount of time.
Rooms
Comfy rooms with a Mediterranean theme plus balconies and tile bathrooms
Rooms here are straightforward and modern, with a homey comfort and simple style. Terra cotta tile and ocean
tones in most rooms reflect the hotel’s Mediterranean theme, as does nautical artwork on the walls. Family Rooms are cartoony and themed after Woody the Woodpecker (PortAventura’s
mascot), with cabin-style furniture and vibrant orange wallpaper in
addition to welcome gifts for kids and adults. All rooms have balconies and
minibars plus air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs; some also come with bathrobes and
slippers. Wi-Fi is free and works well. Stylish bathrooms in most rooms continue the Mediterranean theme with blue tile shower/tubs with
soap dispensers and terra cotta tile. Family Room bathrooms have Woody murals on
the walls. Some rooms do pick up a bit of external noise.
Features
Free access to PortAventura Park, plus outdoor pools and many on-site restaurants
All hotel guests get discounted tickets to Costa Caribe Aquatic Park as well as free access to the PortAventura Park. Guests are also allowed to schedule their ride visits in the park by using a discounted service, a major perk given the long lines many guests have complained about once inside. The hotel can arrange to pick up in-park purchases, and guests are able to pay in the park simply by using their room keys. The hotel has a good selection of restaurants on-site with kid-friendly meal options as well as half-board or all-inclusive plans. Authentic Mediterranean and
international cuisines are served at Buffet del Port and Buffet del Mar; Port Regata offers similar cuisine a la carte. Il Caffe di Roma serves pizza, sandwiches, and pastries and has its own business center with several computers, while the seasonal Cal Pep has dishes from around the world.Other features include two seasonal outdoor pools surrounded by lounge chairs. The big pool is designed to resemble a river, with bridges, waterfalls, and an attached kids' pool, while the small pool is free form and has an adjacent hot tub. There's also a fitness center with a steam room and a sauna, but access to these facilities is not included in all room rates. Live entertainment
for kids and adults takes place every evening, and there is a free kids' club with a
nightly mini-disco. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the city center and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
