Bottom Line

Hotel Indalo Park is a three-pearl resort in Santa Susanna, with bars and restaurants on the doorstep and a five-minute walk from the beachfront. It's got lots to do on-site with pools indoors and out, activities, and a kids' club during the day. For dining and drinking, there's a buffet restaurant, a grill cafe, and a bar with a covered terrace to provide evening entertainment. The 100 rooms have a simple, modern finish -- which contrasts with a more classic look in the lobby and bar areas -- and the Deluxe Rooms have artificial grass balconies with hanging seats or cabana chairs. It's top in its class, but travelers willing to up their budget could check out Caprici Verd, which also has a gym and spa across the street from the beach.

Scene

Large hotel with a gleaming lobby and plenty of space to kick back

Hotel Indalo Park is a large hotel with a touch of glamorous style -- think: marble floors, wood paneling, and mirrors everywhere. The cavernous lobby has paneled ceilings which give it an intimate atmosphere, and a glazed atrium looks down on the tropical-style indoor pool below. There are a few pockets of seating in the reception area, but guests tend to gather in the bar which has cozy European pub decor and brown leather barstools. There is a street-side hotel restaurant and plenty of outdoor seating. The outdoor pool is nicely secluded and spacious enough to accommodate the many guests. The hotel is popular especially with mature couples and tour groups from all over the world.

Location

A five-minute walk to the beach and close to public transport

Hotel Indalo Park sits in the heart of busy tourist resort of Santa Susanna. It's surrounded by hotels, shops, and restaurants, and a five-minute walk under the railway line to the sandy beachfront. There are a handful of historic buildings locally, including a chapel and several watch towers, and a weekly market. Buses stop opposite the hotel with direct routes to Barcelona in about 70 minutes, and to the airport in around 90 minutes -- or it's an hour by car. Santa Susanna station is a 15-minute walk away, and trains departing from there run down the coast to Barcelona, stopping at several coastal resorts like Calella. Routes in the other direction connect the livelier resorts of Malgrat and Lloret de Mar, plus Girona for the airport. It's about an hour to Barcelona or Girona by train.

Rooms

Fresh and modern rooms with large flat-screen TVs, and Deluxe Rooms with large furnished terraces

Rooms are mostly modern and well-lit with large patio windows and furnished balconies. They've got a simple decor featuring pale wood flooring, cream walls, and dark wood furniture -- but brown/gray polyester bedspreads look cheap. The individual hand-painted headboards bring a pop of color. All rooms have air-conditioning, and large 43-inch flat-screen TVs come as standard. Premium Rooms add mini-fridges, free bottled water, and safes, while Deluxe Rooms upgrade to coffee machines and nice garden terraces with artificial grass and hanging swings or cabana chairs. Wi-Fi is free when booking direct, otherwise there's a charge. Bathrooms are stylish, with frosted glass panels letting in some natural light through the main room. All bathrooms come with toiletries and hairdryers. Standard Rooms have shower/tub combos, while Premium Rooms have larger shower cubicles with sliding doors. Some Deluxe Rooms have rainfall showers -- though not all.

Features

Outdoor and indoor pools, whirlpools, a kids' club, two restaurants, and bar with evening entertainment

Hotel Indalo Park has a nice list of features for tourists. There are two outdoor pools with fountains, two whirlpools, and a good number of loungers. Poolside  program activities include aerobics and yoga, a separate indoor pool, kids' club, and a game room with pool tables and leather sofas. A grill restaurant between the outdoor pool deck and street has a varied menu of both local and international food, plus a bar. The main buffet restaurant serves all meals, though it gets pretty congested with people queuing to get food. The bar with an outdoor covered terrace hosts nightly entertainment. There are two internet stations in the lobby, and several events rooms. Wi-Fi has a small weekly charge for guests who don't book directly with the hotel. Other welcome services are a free car park nearby, luggage storage, and a shuttle transfer to Barcelona Airport.
