Bottom Line

Hotel Acapulco is a solid mid-range resort in a central location in Lloret de Mar. It is certainly not a four-star hotel as advertised, but its rooms are clean and bright, and it does offer a few nice amenities, including a pool with a whirlpool and an area for kids, a large restaurant serving a decent buffet daily, and a tiny spa with one treatment room. There are family-friendly apartment-style rooms complete with a kitchenette, a furnished terrace, and a separate living area. However, decor is basic and generic overall; exterior-facing rooms in the lower floors can get street noise; and a few rooms have not been renovated since 2011, and still feature dated decor.

Scene

A family-friendly resort offering all-inclusive rates

From the outside, the Acapulco looks like your typical mid-range beach hotel: The building is painted pale pink; towels hang from balcony railings; and the main entrance is sandwiched between a market selling beach items, and a vending machine. However, while it is not upscale (as some may expect, since it is advertised as a four-star hotel), it has received some upgrades. Renovations in 2013 brought fresh coats of paint, and new furniture to most rooms (though some have not been renovated and still feature dated decor from 2011. New apartment-style units were also added to the hotel during those renovations. The resort’s kid-friendly amenities, such as the kiddy pool, the playground, and the program of activities for kids make it a popular pick among families.

Location

Near restaurants and bars, and within walking distance of the beach

Hotel Acapulco is located in central Lloret de Mar, within walking distance of nightlife and restaurants. There are two nice (but busy!) beaches within a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and the main bus station in town can be reached on foot in just under five minutes. Girona-Costa Brava Airport is located a 25-minute drive away, and Barcelona can be reached in just over an hour.

Rooms

Bright and clean, most with balconies or terraces

The Acapulco offers 192 rooms, the vast majority of which are Standard Rooms with flat-screen TVs, twin or double beds, and mini-fridges. Superior Rooms also feature a furnished terrace. All rooms have generic decor, with dark wood furniture, and (in most) thin, blue bedspreads. A few of the rooms, however, have not been renovated and feature more dated decor and terrazzo floors instead of laminate floors. A number of apartment-style rooms were built during the 2013 renovations, and are probably the best pick for families and groups. They feature contemporary decor, laminate floors, a separate living area complete with a fully equipped kitchenette, and a larger terrace with loungers. These units can sleep up to two adults and three kids.

Features

A nice pool, a buffet restaurant, and a massage room

The hotel features a nice pool area complete with a kiddy pool, a whirlpool for adults, and many loungers. The restaurant serves a decent buffet for all three meals, and features outdoor seating. (Most rates include at least free breakfast, and all-inclusive rates are also available.) The adjacent bar is a popular spot at night, and features a lounge area with comfy seating and plants. The resort offers nightly entertainment, and poolside activities for kids, as well as a playground and an outdoor area with toys. The tiny spa is just a single treatment room, but in-room massages are also available for an extra fee. Free Wi-Fi and a small business center with two computers are also available.
