A huge hotel catering to families on a budget -- but better suited for young partiers
The hotel’s 870 rooms are spread throughout two seven-story buildings surrounded by lush gardens with winding stone paths. Each building has its own pool, and the tennis court is located in the large courtyard situated between buildings. The lobby is a huge, bright space with a few vending machines, a board announcing the weekly entertainment options, several seating areas, a hairdresser, and a souvenir and clothes shop. There are a couple of massage chairs and a small business center in a separate area off the lobby. Given the hotel’s size, the lobby is always busy with guests. There are many kid-friendly amenities here, but due to its low rates, the property is popular with groups of young people looking to party until the wee hours, and can be loud and rowdy at times.

The hotel is located on a busy street in central Lloret de Mar, within walking distance of nightlife and restaurants. There are two nice but busy beaches within a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and Lloret de Mar’s main bus station can be reached on foot in just under five minutes. Girona-Costa Brava Airport is located a 25-minute drive away, and Barcelona can be reached in just over an hour.

All rooms at Gran Hotel Don Juan are clean, and have air-conditioning and balconies furnished with plastic chairs -- but they’re small and dated. Decor is basic, with old-fashioned wooden furniture, small tube TVs (some rooms have flat-screen TVs), thin bedspreads, and a single painting hanging from the wall. While some bathrooms have been renovated, others are small and feel old. Soundproofing is lacking, and sounds coming from other rooms, the pools, and the common areas can be heard. Wi-Fi is available for a fee.
