The mid-range, 288-room Eurosalou Hotel is an all-inclusive property located in the old town of Salou, a 10-minute walk from the beach. The no-frills rooms are clean and have balconies, but lower-category rooms don't come with mini-fridges and all have to pay for safes. Decent features include an outdoor pool with separate kiddy pool, buffet restaurant serving local and international cuisine, and nightly entertainment for both kids and adults. A small gym and spa offering massage treatments, a sauna, steam room, and indoor swimming pool are available, but for a price. Free Wi-Fi is only available in communal areas. For a more modern design and less added fees, consider the H10 Vintage Salou, though it's not all-inclusive.
Scene
A mediocre mid-range hotel popular with families
The Eurosalou Hotel is an average all-inclusive that attracts guests -- mostly British families and couples -- who are willing to look past the property’s flaws because of the affordable rates. The interior of the hotel is dated, featuring peach-colored walls, pale-yellow ceilings, and wood paneling, though wicker seating and a piano next to an armoire add some attractiveness. Like most hotels along this part of the Costa Dorada, though, the focus is more on the outdoors. The pool’s south-facing orientation allows sunbathers and swimmers to make the most of the sun, although there's often a lack of lounge chairs. The animation team puts on entertainment for kids and adults throughout the day and at night.
Location
in old town Salou, a 10-minute walk to the beach
Eurosalou Hotel sits on the edge of the city's old town, which is home to a number of bars, restaurants, and shops. There are two stretches of sandy beach within a 10-minute walk. PortAventura theme and water park is a 10-minute drive away. Expect transfer times to Reus Airport to be 35 minutes by car and between an hour and 90 minutes to Barcelona-El Prat.
Rooms
Generic rooms, with amenities that soon start to add up
The hotel offers standard-type rooms and Junior Suites with a contemporary but no-frills design. Standard rooms are simply decorated but do the job, outfitted with laminate wood floors and wall accents, minimal wood furniture, and neutral-tone linens, but no artwork. These rooms have small flat-screen TVs, hairdryers, and air-conditioning, but mini-fridges require a fee. Bathrooms have multiple beige materials and granite countertops, and come with walk-in showers and basic toiletries. Suites fare a little better on the furnishing front, as they're decorated with darker wood furnishings that pop against the white floor and walls, and have pieces of artwork. They feature separate living rooms with sofa beds and additional flat-screen TVs. Bathrooms are larger and more attractive than their standard counterparts, plus they add bidets. Suites also have free mini-fridges. Wi-Fi, kettles, and safes require fees for all rooms. Lower-category rooms have furnished balconies, while suites -- which are on the top floor -- have large terraces with loungers and dining tables.
Features
A large outdoor pool; a spa and gym; buffet-style dining
Eurosalou has a set of predictable features aimed at keeping families satisfied, but like room amenities, many come at a cost. There is a sizable outdoor pool with a separate pool for young children to splash about, set on a terrace that catches lots of sun. The deck is lined with rows of lounge chairs, but occasionally guests have reported having problems snagging one. A wellness area offers massage treatments, a sauna and steam room, and a small indoor swimming pool, plus a small gym with limited equipment; however, use of any of these facilities requires a fee. There is a small game room with pool tables and a few arcade machines, in addition to daily entertainment during high season that includes shows and activities for both adults and children. Buffet-style meals with local and international dishes are generally good but can get repetitive, and light snacks and drinks are available at the bar. All-inclusive packages include local beer, wine, and spirits, and a discount on premium drinks.
