This lower-middle-range hotel is basic and a generally good value for the area, though it offers little more. Its 322 rooms, situated a few blocks from the beach, are clean for the most part -- however, some rooms have maintenance issues, such as thin walls, poorly functioning plumbing, and general mustiness. There are few amenities here, save for a small outdoor pool and children’s play area. However, the proximity to Tossa de Mar’s main city beach is very convenient, and that -- coupled with the low prices -- lures many vacationing families.
Scene
Hotel is defined by '80s-style decor and families traveling on a budget.
Set on a quiet residential street, the property consists of a series of adjacent, three-story structures. The decor in the lobby and common areas harkens back to the '80s, with mosaic tile, faux-granite surfaces, and slightly corporate glass partitions typical of generic, Spanish hotel architecture from a few decades ago. Families should be advised that much of the children’s entertainment is geared towards Spanish speakers. Guests gather at the rooftop pool, and in the spacious, but basic, lobby piano bar.
Location
On a quiet residential street a few blocks from the city beach in Tossa de Mar
The small beach community of Tossa de Mar is about 100 kilometers from the French border, on the Catalonian Costa Brava. The town itself has a village-like feel, with some lovely 12th-century architecture, and young people zipping around on motorbikes. The hotel is located just a few blocks from the city beach, which is comprised of shingle and enclosed to the west by a medieval castle; it is one of three beaches in the immediate Tossa de Mar area. The property is about a 40-minute drive from the Girona airport. The hotel does have parking for a fee, though it is possible to find parking on the street.
Rooms
Plain and in need of updates
While the rooms are clean overall, they suffer from disrepair -- guests have complained of various issues cropping up, like old plumbing or poor soundproofing. Housekeeping is adequate, but it only includes the most basic cleaning, and some have noticed a failure to remove in-room trash daily. Rooms are on the small side, with the same granite-pattern flooring throughout the bedrooms and bathrooms; the latter have full shower/tub combos. Some rooms have balconies, and all have flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi.
Features
Rooftop pool, play area, and cafeteria
The pool, which is unheated, sits on the top floor of the hotel and enjoys nice views of the city. However, the pool could use repairs; sun-beds are old and cracked, and the pool itself may not be efficiently cleaned. There is a small play area for children, which includes a video game arcade, a play set, and a ping pong table. The buffet food in the on-site restaurant is decent, but can grow repetitive during longer stays. However, hotel is near plenty of dining options in the city.
