Blanche offers a central location that's a two-minute walk from Casa Port railway
station and a 10-minute walk from the Old Medina. While not quite the five-pearl luxury property it bills itself as, the four-and-a-half pearl Sofitel does feature a full-service spa, indoor splash pool, hammam steam room, hot tub, and two restaurants. The 171 contemporary rooms feature comfy beds, Bose audio systems, and flat-screen TVs. Wi-Fi is free throughout, but expect to pay extra for breakfast and many spa services. The nearby Hyatt Regency Casablanca has comparable facilities for a lower price.
Scene
Contemporary chain hotel combines Moroccan accents with trendy interiors
Sofitel Casablanca Tour Blanche is housed in a white
24-story building with a high-ceilinged atrium-style entryway. Guests enter to
a typical Moroccan greeting of free mint tea and pastries, served in a contemporary
black-and-white lobby with chocolate leather seating, potted flowers, and gold
backlit reception desk area. The lobby level has avant garde hanging
sculptures and lighting sconces plus a winding staircase with lattice-screen
style railings. The black-and-white look also prevails in the spa, but
it's offset by the shimmering aqua green of the indoor pool. The stylish cocktail
lounge features violet and yellow seating, art on the walls, a bookshelf with
art and architecture books, and an outdoor terrace with plants. The hotel tends to
attract tourists, who like the central location and wealth of facilities, while the meeting rooms are a plus for business types.
Location
Two-minute walk from Casa Port railway station, 10-minute walk from Old Medina
Sofitel Casablanca Tour Blanche offers a central Casablanca
location that's a two-minute walk south of the Casa Port railway station and the Port of Casablanca. United
Nations Square and the Place des Nations Unies tramway station are an
eight-minute walk southwest of the hotel and the main entrance of the atmospheric Old
Medina is a 10-minute walk northwest of the hotel. The Ligue Arabe Park, Church of the Sacred Heart, Abderrahman Slaoui
Museum of Moroccan Art, and the Art Deco buildings of Place Mohammed V will take 15 to 20 minutes to reach on foot. AnfaPlace shopping center, La
Corniche beach area, and the Atlantic Ocean are a 15-minute drive west of the
hotel. Billed as the largest mosque in Africa and featuring a 689-foot minaret,
the Hassan II Mosque is a 25-minute walk or five-minute drive northwest of the
hotel. Plan on a 45-minute drive from the Sofitel to the Mohammed V International
Airport.
Rooms
Contemporary rooms with plush beds, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs
The 171 contemporary rooms at the Sofitel are arrayed
on 24 floors. Rooms come in Classic, Superior, and Luxury categories plus a
variety of suites. The hotel opened in 2012 so rooms are in generally good
condition, although some could use sprucing up. Rooms are clean and quiet, and
get good natural light. Some rooms are a little small but most start at 355
square feet. Walls are beige and many rooms feature Moroccan
pink, violet, or chocolate brown elements, from carpets to bed runners. All rooms include desks, minibars,
coffee/tea makers, free bottled water, free Wi-Fi, Bose Wave audio systems, and flat-screen TVs with
satellite and English channels. Plush beds have thick mattresses and
cotton sheets. Some rooms have a combination of Atlantic Ocean, Hassan
II Mosque, and Old Medina views. All suites have sitting areas and Bose home
cinemas, and some suites offer butler services, terraces,
jetted tubs, hammam steam rooms, and kitchens, though these features vary from room to room. Contemporary bathrooms have
a dark color palette but are well illuminated, clean, and spacious
with generous counters. All bathrooms come with bathrobes, premium bath
products (Lanvin in rooms, Hermes in suites), rainfall showers, and bathtubs.
Suites have separate tubs and showers.
