Tween Waters Inn Island Resort & Spa is a 137-room mid-range hotel on gorgeous Captiva Island, with water views at every turn . Rooms include suites and one- and two-bedroom rustic-style cottages, and rates, while high at certain times of the year, are in line with other hotels in the area. Free parking, Wi-Fi, and breakfast keeps costs low. Water sport equipment can be rented on-site, as well as bicycles, and guests can walk to the beach.
Scene
Views of both the Gulf of Mexico and the Pine Island Sound from this cozy resort on Captiva Island
The lobby of the two-story Tween Waters Inn Island Resort & Spa is inviting but somewhat dated, with Florida kitschy wicker furniture, an ATM, and a business center consisting of a single desktop computer and printer in the corner. The grounds have a tropical vibe, with the large pool and hot tub surrounded by palm trees. The restaurant, the Crow’s Nest Beach Bar & Grille, is a gathering spot where young and old congregate most weeknights October through August to watch the hilarious crab races. The guest laundry room is handy but not much to look at, with four washing machines and four dryers, all of which could use a good coating of Rust-Oleum.
Location
Close to a nature preserve, but a little farther from Captiva's restaurants and shops than other area hotels
This resort sits between two bodies of water -- the Gulf of Mexico to the west and Pine Island Sound to the east. The property is about a one-minute walk to Buck Key Preserve, a popular kayaking spot. Compared with other area hotels, the resort is farther south -- about a 20-minute walk -- from most of the island’s restaurants in what's considered "downtown" Captiva.
Rooms
A range of accommodations and views
Room units come in varying styles of beach-themed decor: Seaside Cottages range from one to three bedrooms, with either bay, gulf, or pool views. Resort Suites also have one to three bedrooms, with bay or pool views. Cottages and suites have living room areas, flat-screen TVs, full kitchens, and enclosed balconies. Gulfview and Bayview Studios do not have separate living areas or kitchens but do have coffeemakers and mini-fridges. Bathrooms have granite-topped vanities, tub/shower vanities, and come with toiletries. All units include flat-screen TVs. Rooms that face the bay or the gulf are quieter than poolside rooms, and offer a chance to spot dolphins or manatees in the morning.
Features
On-site marina, spa, sauna, and fitness center
In addition to the variety of room options, what sets Tween Waters apart is its marina. Guests can dock their boats, rent water sport equipment, and arrange for fishing or shelling excursions without leaving the property. Tween Waters guests also get a 10 percent discount at Sanibel Island Golf Club, about a 25-minute drive south. The hotel’s spa offers salon services, mani-pedis, body treatments, facials, and massages. There are a fully equipped fitness center and sauna, and meeting and banquet space for groups of up to 150 people. Wi-Fi is free, though it's spotty in some places. Dining options include a coffee shop, casual pool bar, and a slightly more formal but still laid back restaurant, Crow’s Nest Beach Bar & Grille, where a free breakfast buffet is served in the mornings.
