Pros
- Family-run, budget hotel with warm welcome
- Set on hillside with superb views of the surrounds
- Convenient location a five-minute walk from the town center
- Some rooms have furnished terraces and hot tubs
- Free Turkish breakfast on panoramic terrace
- Free Wi-Fi throughout
Bottom Line
The 17-room SOS Cave Hotel is a family-run, value property perched on a hillside with excellent views over the Göreme scenery. A few modern architectural touches detract from the charm of the building and the Standard rooms are very basic in decor and amenities, with dated tube TVs. More upscale rooms, however, provide a few luxuries and furnished balconies are a bonus. All in all, it's not the best hotel in the area, but the family are known for their excellent hospitality and there are few places in town with rates this affordable.

Scene
Family-run, renovated Cappadocia-style small hotel
Renovated from a typical Cappadocia dwelling in the 1980s, the SOS Cave Hotel is a family-run hotel that has been managed by the Kanlibas clan for over a decade. The feel is certainly more contemporary than many other similar hotels in the area and -- although it does retain some of the original elements and charm -- due to the use of more modern building materials there's less of an authentically ancient ambience to the place. The welcome is warm, however, and the family put a genuine emphasis on personal and attentive hospitality. Its on-the-fringes location perched on an incline also gives it a peaceful and relatively secluded feel.
Location
Set on the hillside a five-minute walk from Göreme center
The hotel is located in the west of Göreme on the hillside overlooking the Pigeon valley with views of Uçhisar Castle and surrounding rock formations. The town center is about a five-minute walk away with many restaurants and cafes, while the Open Air Museum and balloon take-off spots are within 15 minutes on foot. The hotel can organize shuttle transfers to and from both Kayseri and Nevsehir Kapadokya airports -- for a fee -- as well as free pick-up from and drop-off from the bus station.
Rooms
Mostly simple rooms with basic amenities -- some have furnished terraces
The hotel has 17 rooms in total, eight are cave style and the other regular stone wall rooms. Rooms are pretty basic and simply decorated -- especially the standard level -- with Turkish touches and wooden furnishings, and some cave rooms suffer from a little dust. Amenities too are no-frills -- some TVs are tube style -- and bathrooms only provide basic toiletries. The Deluxe Cave Room, however, has a bed carved out of the rock and many rooms have hot tubs and furnished terraces with superb views.
Features
Free Turkish breakfast and Wi-Fi
A free Turkish breakfast is served each morning on the terrace -- with uninterrupted views of the surrounding peaks and "fairy chimneys" -- while dinner can also be arranged. All the usual activities are catered for -- ballooning, quad-biking, horse-riding -- and the hotel provides free Wi-Fi plus pick-up and drop-off from the bus station. Those arriving by car also have access to free on-site parking.
