Pros
- Charming, typical dwelling with integrated "fairy chimneys"
- Quiet location on hillside overlooking town
- Town center and many attractions within walking distance
- Particularly attentive and hospitable staff
- Excellent rooms with handmade furnishings
- Free breakfast with superb views
- Free Wi-Fi throughout
Bottom Line
Although similar to many offerings in the area, the 12-room Divan Cave House stands out on two levels: its integrated "fairy chimneys" and particularly hospitable service. Most rooms too are excellent, some featuring fireplaces and hot tubs, though a few can suffer from the usual dankness. Being set up on the hill is great for views over the town -- especially over breakfast -- though not ideal for guests with mobility issues. Rates aren't the cheapest in town, though still good value, especially for the wonderful cave suites.

Scene
Typical ancient Göreme dwelling with integrated "fairy chimneys"
Set a little away from the town center, the Divan Cave House has an agreeably secluded ambience providing visitors with a pleasantly calming effect on arrival. The building itself is a perfect example of typically Cappadocia style architecture, though is also one of a limited number of hotels that actually integrate the area's famous "fairy chimneys" into the property (any alteration of these has been banned since they became UNESCO protected). The hotel is made up of ancient limestone walls and pathways connecting pretty terraces and leading into the snug rock-cut, grotto-like rooms typical of these dwellings. Being a family-run business, guests are treated to a particularly warm welcome by staff who put an emphasis on hospitable service.
Location
Set uphill just south of Göreme's center in a quieter neighborhood
The location is just uphill to to the south of Göreme's town center, in a more quiet and secluded area but still well within walking distance of most of the area's attractions. The central town square is about a 10-minute walk away, while the complex of rock-cut dwellings of the Open Air Museum is around 15 minutes away on foot and the ancient 11th-century El Nazar Church is around 20 minutes. The hotel can organize shuttle transfers to and from both Kayseri and Nevsehir Kapadokya airports (for a fee), which takes between an hour and an hour and a half -- alternatively the bus station is less than half a mile away.
Rooms
Rooms with hand-woven rugs and custom-made furnishings -- some with fireplaces and hot tubs
The hotel has just 12 rooms -- a mixture of stone wall and rock-cut cave rooms -- all nicely finished in a traditional rustic style with custom-made furniture and hand-woven kilims (traditional Turkish rugs). Amenities include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges while travertine-tiled bathrooms include slippers and hairdryers (many also have soaking tubs). Common to such rooms, the Wi-Fi signal can be weak and the air in some rooms can feel a bit musty. Heating, however, is provided in the cooler months and many rooms also have pretty fireplaces.
Features
Free buffet breakfast overlooking stunning scenery
Guests can enjoy particularly stunning views over the Cappadocia scenery from the hotel's breakfast room, which serves a buffet breakfast free of charge. The hotel also offers a free Rose Valley Sunset Tour as well as free drop-offs to the bus station. Staff are also on-hand to help book any number of activities, including balloon rides, horseback riding, airport transfers, and quad-bike tours. Although there is no restaurant on-site, there is an excellent one just opposite which offers guests a small discount.
