Gaferli Mah. Cevizler Sok. No: 6, Goreme, Turkey | (888) 708-2081
Set in charming
and rustic converted rock-cut cave dwelling
Quiet and
secluded spot five minutes' walk from town center
Particularly
cozy, grotto-style rooms
Pretty,
flower-filled garden with excellent views
All bathrooms
include jetted tubs
Free Wi-Fi
throughout
"Natural" air-conditioning doesn't always sufficiently cool rooms
Cave rooms can be a little
humid and musty
The eight-room Dervish Cave
House is a particularly charming and intimate hotel built in the typical Cappadocia
style cut into the rock. Rooms are cozy and snug with more than adequate
amenities, though small windows mean it can get a little humid (and there's no proper air-conditioning). Although
bathrooms look basic, all provide jetted tubs. The highlight
of the hotel, however, is the pretty garden terrace overlooking the wonderful
surroundings. It all feels a little more secluded and quaint than most, if a
little rough around the edges, but low rates give the property good value.
Scene
Charming converted cave-house dwelling with superb "fairy chimney" views
Although similar
to Göreme's many examples of converted Cappadocia cave houses, there's
something that feels particularly charming about the Dervish
Cave House. A discreet leafy entrance leads through a set of wooden doors into
a secluded little courtyard where red ivy droops from ancient limestone walls
and more stone facades merge with the centuries-old, rock-cut dwellings and
volcanic rock pinnacles. Past a remarkable 200-year-old mulberry tree, the
hotel's lobby is a simple and homey space with a beamed wooden ceiling, awash
with old Turkish rugs and locally-sourced furnishings. Its three large windows
overlook the pretty lawned terrace -- a peaceful, furnished garden which offers
some of the area's finest views of the famous "fairy chimneys".
Location
Set just to the south of Göreme town center just five minutes from the central square
The hotel is
located just to the south of Göreme town center on the path leading to a
viewing platform with panoramic vistas over the surrounds. The town's central
square is about a five-minute walk away and most of the town's attractions are
well within walking distance. The
stunning rock-carved Open Air Museum is under 10 minutes away on foot, while
the ancient 11th-century El Nazar Church is just over a mile away. Ballooning
excursion points are also within walking distance, which the hotel can help
organize as well as other excursions around the area. There are two airports that serve the area -- Kayseri
and Nevsehir Kapadokya -- which are
between an hour and an hour and a half drive away.
Rooms
Particularly cozy, grotto-style rooms with free Wi-Fi and jetted tubs
The hotel has just
eight rooms in total all of which are cave rooms cut out of the rock with a
wonderful cozy, grotto-feel. Decor is simple with regional handicrafts, Turkish
rugs, and wooden furnishings and flooring. Air-conditioning is "natural" which
means rooms can get warm and windows do tend to be small, but most look out
onto the pretty garden courtyard. In-room amenities include free Wi-Fi, tea and
coffee facilities, and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, while jetted
tubs come as standard in all bathrooms.
Features
Turkish breakfast with homemade jelly enjoyed in pretty, flowery garden
The hotel serves
guests a Turkish breakfast each morning (included in the rate) which includes jelly
made from the fruit of the 200 year old mulberry tree in the garden. Morning
breakfast and evening drinks can be enjoyed on the hotel's pretty flower-filled
garden terrace which overlooks the picturesque surrounds. The hotel also can organize
a range of tours and trips, including ballooning and horse-riding, while Turkish
Nights with Whirling Dervish ceremonies and belly-dancing can also be
arranged.
