Bottom Line

The 24-room Glen Boutique Hotel is an impeccably presented, secluded boutique set in a residential district a 10-minute drive from Cape Town's center. It is a gay-friendly hotel, though welcomes and attracts all types of guests and provides an excellent range of facilities including pools, saunas, and hot tubs. Rooms are plush and contemporary, all with outdoor areas and some with sea views. It's not one of the cheaper options in the area; the Atlantic Affair Boutique Hotel nearby is more budget-friendly, though lacks a pool.

Scene

Gay-friendly boutique with impeccably tasteful interiors and secluded ambience

Stepping through a discreet entrance flanked with potted shrubbery, visitors are greeted by a pair of feline statues guarding a secluded and calming garden thick with palms and exotic vegetation. A short lantern-lit hallways leads into a fine, period townhouse -- complete with whitewashed balustrades and arched doorways -- and an immaculately presented lobby area setting the tone for the rest of the property. Everything throughout the hotel is tastefully done with a blend of sharp 21st-century styling and African touches including genuine safari skins and native wooden sculpture. This chic boutique used to be geared exclusively towards the gay community, and while it's still gay-friendly, it nowadays attracts all kinds of visitors, but mainly younger couples and solo travelers drawn by its secluded and sophisticated vibe.
