Stepping through a discreet entrance flanked with potted shrubbery, visitors are greeted by a pair of feline statues guarding a secluded and calming garden thick with palms and exotic vegetation. A short lantern-lit hallways leads into a fine, period townhouse -- complete with whitewashed balustrades and arched doorways -- and an immaculately presented lobby area setting the tone for the rest of the property. Everything throughout the hotel is tastefully done with a blend of sharp 21st-century styling and African touches including genuine safari skins and native wooden sculpture. This chic boutique used to be geared exclusively towards the gay community, and while it's still gay-friendly, it nowadays attracts all kinds of visitors, but mainly younger couples and solo travelers drawn by its secluded and sophisticated vibe. 

The hotel is situated in a very residential area in Cape Town’s Sea Point district a 10-minute walk from the waterfront and about a 10-minute drive from town center. The nearest beaches are the series of sandy coves at Clifton, also 10 minutes away by car, while Camps Bay  -- a long, sandy beach with palm trees and a promenade lined with restaurants and bars -- is a little farther down the coast. The closest airport is Cape Town International, about 14 miles away, or 25 minutes by cab -- the hotel can also arrange airport transfers. 

The hotel's 24 rooms are all finished in tasteful, contemporary styling with light tones and a mixture of clean lines and plush touches. In-room refreshments come in the form of free welcome drinks, an affordable minibar, and tea and coffee facilities. Free Wi-Fi and satellite TV come as standard, while bathrooms include spacious showers, twin basins, and Italian designer fixtures as well as fluffy robes and high-end bath products. Each room also opens to a private garden terrace or balcony, many with mountain and/or sea views. The penthouse room offers a particularly luxurious space with panoramic views through floor-to-ceiling windows.

The hotel's rear garden area is a well-designed series of terraces, sun decking, and pools including an outdoor hot tub and restaurant patio. A range of excellent breakfast options are included in the rate, which can also be enjoyed in the dining area, al fresco, or in your room. Food and drink is available around the clock, for lunch and dinner in the restaurant, and in one of two bar areas. A private spa also includes a spacious Moroccan-style steam room and traditional Swedish sauna as well as a range of treatments.
