Bottom Line

The 44-room Capri Motor Lodge is a friendly, charming budget hotel run by two sisters that is located directly across the street from the lovely public beach. A short distance from popular dining and shopping areas, this value property has a relaxed, communal atmosphere with various outdoor activities such as a pool with lounge chairs, shuffleboard, ping pong, several grills, and picnic tables. The rooms are spacious and clean, though dated with patterned bedspreads. All of the rooms have kitchenettes or kitchens and the suites are very spacious with a separate living room. Decor isn't winning any awards, but overall it's a slight step up from Avondale by the Sea -- another large budget hotel a few blocks up the beach.

Scene

Charming beach hotel with a friendly, communal atmosphere

The Capri Motor Lodge has a fun, friendly vibe, with various communal areas and outdoor games. It is laid out with exterior hallways, as is common at the Jersey Shore, and guests have benches outside their rooms which look out onto the beach. Lobby decor is simple and beachy, with bright white walls with light blue trimming, multicolored striped wicker chairs, and starfish and bowls of sea glass resting on the front desk. There is also a popcorn machine for guests to nibble on. The atmosphere overall is family-friendly and laid back.

Location

Located across the street from the public beach and near popular attractions

The hotel is located in the popular Jersey shore beach escape of Cape May, literally across the street from the beautiful public beach. It is mostly surrounded by other hotels and personal residences, and is just a 15-minute walk to Washington Street Mall, which is the main shopping and dining area. It is also convenient to many other popular areas. - 13-minute walk to Colonial House

  • 14-minute walk to Cape May City Hall
  • 9-minute drive to Sunset Beach
  • 11-minute drive to Cape May Point State Park
  • 14-minute walk to Emlen Physick Estate
  • 16-minute drive to Wildwood Beach

Rooms

Spacious, dated rooms with kitchenettes

The rooms at the Capri Motor Lodge are clean and spacious, and nicer than some of the other similar hotels in the area. The decor is beachy, without going overboard, with white paneled walls, basic patterned bedspreads, contemporary wood furniture, and beautiful photographs of the beach. Each room has two full size beds, a flat-screen TV, a dresser, and air-conditioning. They all each have a kitchenette with a mini-fridge, stove top, and sink -- the suites have a full kitchen with dishwasher, oven, a full refrigerator, and a microwave. The suites also have a separate living room with couches and a dining table. The more deluxe the room, the more contemporary the bathrooms are. They are generally standard, with a sink, toilet, and shower/tub combo. They also include toiletries, and even makeup remover towels. They rooms are clean and well maintained, but decor is on the dated side.

Features

Beach, outdoor pool, ping-pong table, shuffle board, and outdoor grills

The hotel is located across the street from a beautiful, large public beach. Guests also have the option of swimming at the large pool on the hotel's property. However, it is located right next to the road, so there isn't much privacy. Next to the pool is a large grassy area where guests can play ping pong and shuffleboard, or cook a meal outside on the grills and eat at one of the picnic tables. The hotel also offers free Wi-Fi.
