The Cove at Yarmouth is a mid-range, family-friendly condo-style resort with 229 townhouses and suites. Located in the Mid-Cape’s Hyannis area, it's close to many of Cape Cod’s hotspots, though a car is required to get around, including to reach the beach. But vacationing families that stay on-site will find loads of activities: indoor and outdoor pools; racquetball, tennis, and basketball courts; and diversions for children and adults. Decor throughout is somewhat dated and generic, but rooms and common areas are spacious with separate living and bedroom areas, and all units also have a small kitchenette, something that's especially helpful as there's no on-site restaurant. Travelers could also consider the nearby Hampton Inn and Suites Cape Cod - West Yarmouth, which has fewer property features, but offers more modern decor and a free breakfast.
Scene
Family-friendly resort with roomy townhouses and an abundance of on-site amenities
The Cove at Yarmouth is located just off a main commercial road in the Yarmouth/Hyannis area, and occupies a somewhat uninspired series of identical townhouses with light gray siding and dark gray roofs, though the units and the grounds are both well-maintained. The resort has a large lobby with a tiled floor and carpeted alcoves with wood chairs, tables, and vending machines, which gives it a sort of community-center vibe. Decor throughout is vaguely beach-themed (nautically striped chairs, sailboat art), though somewhat bland and dated. The facilities are clean, though, and nothing is overly garish. With an on-site fitness center, daily activities for kids and adults, indoor and outdoor pools, and condo-like accommodations, this establishment clearly caters toward vacationers and has a family-friendly vibe throughout.
Location
In the Mid-Cape's Hyannis area, a three-minute drive to the beach and five-minute drive to Hyannis Inner Harbor
Situated just off a main commercial road surrounded by hotels, restaurants, and shops, The Cove at Yarmouth may not be beachfront, but it does sit on a pretty inlet coming off the nearby bay. Its location in the Mid-Cape’s Hyannis area means it has easy access to many of Cape Cod’s main attractions. A three-minute drive will get guests to the beach, while Barnstable Airport and Hyannis’ Main Street are about five minutes away, though summer traffic can make these trips longer. Hyannis Inner Harbor is also only a five-minute drive from the resort and has one-hour ferry rides to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket.- Three-minute drive to the beach
Rooms
Roomy townhouses and suites with kitchenettes and separate living and bedroom areas, though somewhat dated decor
With cream-colored walls, white fixtures, blue or shell-patterned comforters, wood-slatted headboards, and a smattering of sailboat themed pillows and framed pictures, guest rooms sport decor that’s tasteful if not slightly dated and generic. But guests agree it’s a great value for the amount of space, as both suites and townhouses have a bedroom and a separate living room area and an efficiency kitchen. The kitchen includes counter space, a sink, cabinets, dishes, plus appliances such as a mini-fridge, microwave, and Keurig coffeemaker, but there's no stove and guests must bring their own coffee pods or buy them in the vending machines on-site. Bathrooms are spacious, but they’re largely unadorned with a tiled floor, white fixtures, a vanity, and a shower stall. Rooms also come equipped with flat-screen TVs, sitting areas, and free toiletries. Rooms that face the indoor pool can be noisy according to guests. Other common complaints include a lack of windows for fresh air or natural light and so-called “queen beds” that run toward more of a "full" size.
Features
Indoor and outdoor pools; racquetball, basketball, and tennis courts; and family-friendly activities -- but no restaurant or bar
The highlight of The Cove at Yarmouth is its many property features, such as its outdoor pool, indoor pool, and whirlpool. The outdoor pool is the smaller of the two, surrounded by a plain concrete sundeck and generic white lounge chairs. The indoor pool is more attractive; it's located in an atrium-style room with tiled floors, striped lounge chairs, other sitting areas, and a roomy, 18-person whirlpool. The hotel also has a Racquet Sport Center with a range of facilities including indoor and outdoor tennis courts and basketball courts, two racquetball courts, a "walleyball" (rebound volleyball) room, and ping pong and billiard tables. While the tennis courts are free, the other sporting areas cost a small fee to access. The center also has a fitness area, with somewhat outdated but functional equipment including cardio machines, a weight machine, and barbells. It also has a tiny sauna, steam room, and locker rooms. The resort hosts a range of family-friendly activities, such as movie nights, bingo nights, volleyball games, and water aerobics. A dedicated play area and separate craft room are geared toward kids, who can join activities like tee shirt painting and jewelry making. Most activities cost a nominal extra fee.The Cove also has outdoor picnic tables and grills, though some are located in the gravel next to the parking lot. As The Cove sits on an actual cove that runs off the bay, it also has a pseudo-beach, a small sandy area with a fire pit and Adirondack chairs that look out on water. The one obvious missing amenity is an on-site restaurant, causing guests to eat off-site or make use of their in-unit kitchenettes for meals.
