Hampton Inn and Suites Cape Cod – West Yarmouth

While the exterior of this Hampton Inn is an odd amalgamation of brick plus blue-and-cream-colored siding, the property and interior itself are well-maintained and tastefully decorated. Situated on a commercial main road, the hotel includes a large parking lot in the front and, in the back, a fenced-in pool area and large lawn with a gazebo. Inside, the large lobby is somewhat generic but pleasantly decorated, with a stylish hardwood floor, dark wood reception desk, and a charming fireplace flanked by navy armchairs. While the hotel offers business amenities, it’s in-room kitchen amenities, family-friendly features, and proximity to Cape Cod attractions make it a prime spot for vacationers on multi-day trips. 

Situated on a main commercial road surrounded by hotels, restaurants, and shops, Hampton Inn and Suites Cape Cod may not be beachfront, but its location in the Mid-Cape’s Hyannis area means it has convenient access to many of Cape Cod’s hotspots. A three-minute drive will get guests to the beach or Hyannis’ Main Street, while the Hyannis Inner Harbor, Barnstable Airport, and other attractions are less than ten minutes away, though summer traffic can make the trips longer. The hotel offers a shuttle to the harbor, so guests can take the one-hour ferry ride to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket without worrying about parking.

Rooms at this Hampton Inn are clean and modern, a real boon in Cape Cod, where many of the properties are outdated. With blue carpeting, cream-colored walls, white furniture, beachy slatted headboards, and ocean-themed framed photos, the decor is tasteful and homey, if not somewhat generic. 

Rooms range in size, but all include a host of extra amenities such as mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers, as well as lap desks, ergonomic desk chairs, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Guests also get a free newspaper on weekdays and all rooms have hairdryers and irons.

Bathrooms have tiled floors, gray walls, shower/tub combos, and granite sinks with large mirrors. Guests are given a range of Neutrogena toiletries, and can get extra necessities they’ve forgotten for free at the front desk. Suites are also available with an in-room whirlpool tub. Rooms on the ground floor can be noisy with foot traffic, so light sleepers should choose a room higher up. 

The hotel has a range of on-site amenities aimed at children, families, and vacationers, though there’s plenty of amenities for business guests, too. A game room and arcade offers air hockey and several video games, while a fitness center features cardio equipment, a weight machine, and a towel and water station. A small on-site shop is stocked with snacks, drinks, candy, traveler’s essentials, and even frozen dinners, and there's coin-operated laundry facilities, too. 

A large dining area with a separate buffet room serves up Hampton Inn’s trademark free breakfast, which guests say is average but satisfactory, with a well-stocked supply of fruit, cereals, breads, orange juice, as well as make-your-own Belgian waffles. The biggest complaint about breakfast is that it's served on throwaway plates with plastic cutlery.

The outdoor pool area is dotted in blue lounge chairs and umbrella-covered tables and also features an outdoor bar and a fire pit, which guests say sometimes serves up s’mores at night. The indoor pool is much smaller, but has some wicker seating areas and a tiny whirlpool. The pool itself only extends to five-feet deep, though guest say it’s still a saving-grace for vacationing kids on rainy days. 

For business travelers, there's an on-site meeting room and a 24-hour business center, which is tiny but has two desktop computers and a printer. Mail and fax services and audio-visual equipment are also available.
