Overview

Pros
  • Charming (but small) rooms, some with fireplaces, decks, or whirlpool tubs

  • Free hot breakfast daily

  • Access to Shui Spa free for guests (treatments are extra)

  • Pet-friendly (one room available)

  • Free transportation to beach and Provincetown airport

  • Free afternoon snacks, teas, and happy hour

  • Good American bistro/bar (dinner only)

  • Free parking (though it's 3 blocks away from hotel)

Cons
  • Tiny outdoor pool

  • Standard rooms and baths are very small (under 200 square feet)

  • Average-size rooms are pricey

  • Children under 16 not permitted (may be a pro for some)

Bottom Line

For the most part, this upscale inn and spa is charming and attractive -- but room decor is underwhelming when compared to competing properties, and the standard Pamper Me rooms are very small. Those not on a budget would do well to book the more spacious higher-level rooms, which also come with added extras such as fireplaces, decks, and whirlpool tubs. The main amenity here is Shui Spa, and guests can access its facilities -- the mineral soaking tub, steam room, and sauna -- for free.

Scene

Historic home turned into a modern inn

The Crowne Pointe Historic Inn & Spa includes 40 rooms and suites spread out in six different buildings. Like many inns on the Cape, the main building of was originally built as a sea captain’s house -- and, ghost hunters take note, legend has it that the old captain roams the halls of his old home. The buildings wrap around a nicely landscaped courtyard with a small pool and two Jacuzzis. In January of 1999, the entire property went under a massive renovation. The historical architecture and details -- such as the Victorian wallpaper and coffered tin moldings -- were kept intact, but features were added to modernize the inn to bring it up to upscale standards. Flat-screen TVs, the Shui Spa, and The Bistro were all added during the renovation.

Location

One block from the east end of Commercial Street

Crowne Pointe Inn is located on Bradford Street, a quiet street one block away from Commercial Street, Provincetown’s own version of “Main Street.” There's a small staircase that leads guests right down to Commercial Street. During the busy season, Commercial Street is a chaotic non-stop party with weekly events such as Carnival in August.Provincetown is one of the Cape’s hottest destinations for gay and lesbian travelers (and residents -- it has the highest percentage of same-sex couples in the country), but it's also a popular destination for families. Home to America’s first art colony, art lovers looking for original artwork will find plenty of galleries, exhibits and shops to browse. Those looking to converse with nature can check out Herring Cove, one of the most popular (albeit rocky) beaches in town. And for sunsets, you can’t beat Race Point. If you're looking for some wild nights, you'll find them here too. Clubs, bars, and restaurants are everywhere (especially lining Commercial Street), and you can catch many a show -- drag shows and celebrity impersonators are popular here.In town, it’s best to just ditch the car and either walk or rent a bike from one of the local shops because there is very little parking (two open lots are at either end of Commercial Street, and they aren't cheap), and it can be difficult to drive down a road when there are tons of people walking in the middle of the street.- 20-minute flight from Boston via Cape Air, which flies into Provincetown Municipal Airport

  • 3-hour drive from Boston Logan International Airport
  • 2-minute walk to Commercial Street for restaurants, shops, and galleries
  • 2-minute walk to Ptown bike rentals
  • 20-minute drive to Wellfleet

Rooms

Charming touches -- but bland carpets, and very small standard rooms

Crowne Pointe Inn offers an array of room types, depending on your budget. The standard rooms are small -- less than 200 square feet -- so if you can afford it, it would be wise to splurge on one of the bigger Executive or Deluxe suites. All of the rooms are decorated in warm yellows and browns, with antique-style wood furniture, though the dated carpets make the overall effect blander than it might be otherwise. There is one room available that allows pets.- Flat-screen TVs

  • Warm, inviting decor
  • Pamper Me Once rooms have a queen bed and private access to the Main Inn’s wraparound porch.
  • Pamper Me Twice rooms have one of the following: a king bed, a private deck, fireplace, or whirlpool tub.
  • Pamper Me Three rooms have a combo of private deck, fireplace or whirlpool, and king bed. Many have access to the wraparound porch.
  • Executive Suites have a private deck, fireplace, whirlpool tub for two, kitchenette and dining areas, and outdoor deck.
  • Deluxe Suites have whirlpool tub for two; some have a private deck.
  • Deluxe Two Story Suites have fireplaces, whirlpool for two, living room, full kitchen, dining room and two baths.
  • Penthouse Residence is two stories and sleeps four, with cathedral ceilings, skylights, dining area, living area, fireplace, chef’s kitchen, a private second floor deck with table and chairs, gas BBQ and more.
