Scene

Chic design in a lovely garden setting with good service from the family of owners

This lovely hotel offers good family-run service and a quiet atmosphere that appeals to many couples, plus a handful of families. The grounds are beautiful and lush, with verdant lawns and wicker seating areas under the olive trees. Pathways lined with greenery and the occasional sculpture lead between guest buildings and to the lovely pool. Inside, cream-colored walls and gray furnishings are brightened with occasional pops of bold colors, particularly rich purple accents. The elegant design includes quality furnishings and lovely embellishments like a delicate, mirrored “O” behind the reception desk, artwork in the breakfast room, and vases of fresh flowers.

Location

Quiet spot just outside popular tourist areas in Cannes

La Bastide de L’Oliveraie is in the French Riviera, in a quiet residential area outside the busy city center of Cannes. There is plenty to see and do within a 10- to 20-minute walk, including art museums, churches, and a plethora of boutique shops and eateries. The town is much more accessible by car, or there is a bus stop a two-minute walk from the hotel. The nearest beach is a five-minute drive away, and there are several others within a 15-minute drive. The Palais des Festivals -- the huge convention center where the annual film festival is held -- is a nine-minute drive from the hotel. Cannes-Mandelieu Airport is a 25-minute drive from the hotel and Cannes’ port is 10 minutes by car.

Rooms

Tranquil rooms with stylish decor and upscale amenities

Rooms here are lovely and relaxing, with the same elegant cream-and-gray color scheme found throughout the rest of the hotel. Purple accents are deployed sparingly, artwork is black-and-white prints, and colors are muted for a tranquil vibe. Two twin beds or a queen include quality mattresses and linens, plus plenty of extra pillows. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, minibars, irons, free Wi-Fi, and safes. Upgrades include extras like Nespresso machines, robes, king-size beds, and sitting rooms. Additionally, some have furnished outdoor spaces with appealing pool or rooftop views. Modern bathrooms have large, walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads, plus separate tubs in some. Heated towel racks are a nice touch. Hairdryers are provided, and free toiletries include soap, shampoo, and shower gel.

Features

Heated pool, rooftop whirlpool, and spa services, but no full restaurant

The heated infinity pool is a highlight of the hotel. It sits on a lovely terrace with a view of the surrounding hillsides and there are ample loungers. A rooftop whirlpool on a tiny patio and a separate sundeck with a few lounge chairs are also on-site. A relaxing spa area includes massage rooms, a hammam, and a sauna. The fitness room is a pleasant space, but it has just a handful of equipment. There is no full restaurant here. Breakfast is available, but it costs extra, and guests find the self-service meal underwhelming for the price. A bar off the lobby serves coffee, snacks, and drinks. Street parking is free but not always easy to get, or there’s on-site parking for a fee. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
