The 47-room Laguna Suites Golf & Spa is a family-run, mid-range property with a quiet atmosphere, especially in contrast to many noisy and lively Cancun hotels, and
it's ideal for those seeking a peaceful retreat. Guests can upgrade to an
all-inclusive option if they wish, but it doesn’t come as standard like in many other properties in the area. Rooms are spacious and have a separate living and dining
area, but the decor is dull and uninspired. There aren’t a great deal of
facilities on-site, other than a small pool, restaurant, and spa, and the beach
is five minutes away, too, so those considering the Laguna Suites will need to
be happy to get out and explore the area. For a quiet, mid-range resort by the beach, travelers might want to consider the BelleVue Beach Paradise instead.
Scene
Small and peaceful, family-run property with eco-friendly practices
The inviting lobby of this small hotel has open sides, a high ceiling with
ceiling fans, a mosaic-tiled floor, and lots of neutral-colored sofas. There's
a TV in the corner and a large vase of tropical flowers in the center of the
room. The two-story building looks modern and clean, and the property's eco-friendly ethos means that water is heated by solar power. Laguna Suites mainly
attracts couples and singles looking for a quiet and peaceful alternative to
Cancun's large and busy beachfront resorts, though a lack of activities for kids means that families prefer to go elsewhere, which helps in maintaining the tranquil vibe. Travelers should note that mosquitos can be an issue, especially due to the hotel's proximity to the
lagoon.
Location
Peaceful, but slightly isolated location overlooking the golf course
Set in a quiet, residential part of Cancun’s Hotel Zone, the Laguna
Suites is next to the Pok Ta Pok golf course and surrounded by the Nichupte lagoon.
There are no shops, bars, or restaurants in the immediate area, the closest
being around a five-minute drive away. The beach is around a 10-minute walk away, too, so this property is not ideal for those who want everything on the
doorstep. The famous nightclub Coco Bongo is a five-minute drive from the
hotel, and the Hard Rock Cafe is a 15-minute drive. For shopping, La Isla
Shopping Village is a 10-minute drive and the exclusive boutiques of Luxury
Avenue are a 15-minute drive. Aquaworld and Wet'n Wild are 20 and 30 minutes
by car, and the Mayan ruins at El Rey are a 20-minute drive as well. Cancun
International Airport is 30 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Spacious and well-equipped suites with kitchenettes and simple, if bland, decor
The hotel consists of large suites with separate living areas
furnished with sofa beds, dining tables and chairs, as well as kitchenettes with fridges,
microwaves, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Decor is spare and simple, if bland, with wooden furnishings and soft, neutral beige and cream hues accented by pops of bright colors via vibrant artwork on the walls. Bedrooms have two double beds and a large amount of closet space, plus iPod docks, flat-screen TVs, safes,
iron and ironing boards, and air-conditioning. The bathrooms have double sinks with lots of counter space as well as a small walk-in shower, range of toiletries, and hairdryers.
Features
Spa, fitness center, pool, restaurant, and free shuttle
Despite the hotel’s name, it does not have its own golf course, and
there are few facilities on-site to entertain guests. The swimming pool is
small but has a swim-up bar and is surrounded by palm trees and comfortable sun
loungers. There are views of the Pok Ta Pok golf course and stunning sunsets
over Nichupte lagoon. Guests can enjoy the property’s tropical gardens or visit
the spa which has a sauna, hot tub, and treatment rooms for massages and
facials. The hotel's Nik Te Ha restaurant
is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and serves a wide variety of cuisine
in an open-sided space with a thatched grass roof. Fresh tropical flowers are a
nice touch on the pretty wooden tables with decorative inlays. Wi-Fi is
available, but isn’t free. The hotel runs a free shuttle to the beach and to its three sister hotels in
Cancun if guests should fancy a change of scenery.
