Bottom Line

The Hotel Margaritas Cancun is a 74-room value hotel located in a tranquil area of downtown. The property offers a colonial-style setting with affordable rates, but there are few amenities and it shows some minor wear and tear. White-and-pink themed rooms are air-conditioned and have flat-screen TVs, plus some have furnished balconies. It's adjoined to its sister hotel, the Adhara Hacienda Cancun, which has additional features, and both properties share the parking lot and transportation service to nearby sights, the airport, and the beach. The nearby Oasis Smart has a slew of other amenities, including contemporary rooms, a large pool, and nightclub, though rates are a bit higher.

Hotel Margaritas

Scene

A downtown hotel in a tranquil area with hot pink and white decor

Hotel Margaritas Cancun attracts budget-minded guests with its central downtown location and comfortable digs. It has a laid-back atmosphere, thanks in part to the fact that there are almost no on-site features. It is next door to its sister property, Adhara Hacienda, and guests of Margaritas will often use the pool and restaurant there for a fee. The design scheme here is a mix of traditional Mexican-themed decor such as carved woods and wrought iron, plus contemporary hot-pink accents throughout. Its tiny lobby features hot-pink accent walls and faux-leather armchairs, plus a corner of it is the dedicated breakfast room filled with white plastic and metal tables and seating. As there are no other public spaces within the hotel, most guests are tourists or business travelers who spend their days outside the property.

Location

In a tranquil area near the heart of downtown, with easy access to public transportation

Located right behind Avenida Tulum (downtown's main avenue), the Hotel Margaritas is in a tranquil area that's part business and residential, with several sports facilities, schools, and a public library nearby. The hotel is within walking distance of the bus station, city hall, and tons of stores, pharmacies, and restaurants. Public transportation can be easily found on Avenida Tulum, both to the Hotel Zone (buses heading south) and the city's neighborhoods (buses heading north).

A small indoor shopping mall called Plaza Galerias, a Mexican supermarket, and a produce market called Mercado 23 (not to be confused with the flea market named Mercado 28, which is one mile away), are within a 10-minute walk of the hotel. The city's largest shopping mall, Las Americas, is about a five-minute drive from the hotel.

The beaches are about a 10-minute bus ride, and it takes 20 minutes to reach the most popular nightclubs and shopping centers in the Hotel Zone. The hotel provides free transportation to the Mandala Beach Club, airport, and Puerto Juarez dock to cross to Isla Mujeres. Cancun International Airport is about a 25-minute drive, and can be easily reached from the main bus terminal.

Rooms

Pink-and-white themed rooms with air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs

The 74 standard rooms feature rustic Mexican decor with hand-carved wooden furniture, wrought-iron touches, and a white-and-pink color scheme. They have hot-pink accent walls, white quilts with hot-pink-and-white-striped bed runners, and framed artwork of palm trees and clay pots. Rooms are spacious and come with either a king-size bed or two double beds, as well as flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, laptop-size safes, work desks, and free Wi-Fi. They do show some signs of age, however. Beige bathrooms with a stripe of colorful tile come equipped with shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries.

Rooms are in four-story buildings (without elevators) and have views either of the neighboring pool, street, or grounds. Some rooms have sliding glass doors that open onto small balconies with white plastic chairs.

Features

A small breakfast room, conference room, free shuttle service, and parking lot

There are almost no features at this budget property, though guests can pay to use the pool at the neighboring sister hotel. The lobby area also contains a meeting and event space that can accommodate up to 50.

The hotel offers free shuttle service within a three-mile radius, as well as to the airport and a beach club, but seated is limited and guests must book it one day in advance.
