Scene
Three-story white stucco buildings
Hotel Hacienda de Castillo attracts a variety of budget
travelers and families looking to save some money on accommodations; most are out on tours or excursions during the day and just
need a place to sleep at night. Folks
flying in and out of Cancun, or who are on their way to other destinations, also
make up a portion of the clientele. The hotel has a fair amount of business
travelers as well, due to its proximity to the city center. With only 43 rooms on a compact property, the hotel is small
and has a relaxed, personalized ambience. There is a well-staffed front desk
and a little bit of seating in the lobby, as well as a tour desk where guests
can book excursions. A business center with two computers is located in the
back of the lobby that guests can use for free. Outside of the lobby are the restaurant
and the pool. There is an outdoor patio area lining the restaurant with tables
and chairs. The hotel is made up of white three-story buildings with
arches and window railings, and is fairly non-descript from the exterior. There
is a small courtyard inside the property with a waterfall and plants where guests can park their cars. The building has security and parking inside
the hotel is safe.
Location
In a residential neighborhood of Cancun
The hotel is removed from most attractions and amenities in
the area, so guests should be prepared to rent a car, or take buses and taxis. It's a 10-minute drive to the top of the Hotel Zone, with beaches and restaurants, and is within walking distance from a bus stop. There is also a supermarket nearby and
some local eateries. Taxis are available 24 hours a day right outside of the
hotel.The hotel is in a working-class, residential
area of Cancun. The neighborhood looks a bit rough from the outside but is
generally safe, although it is not recommended to walk at night. The hotel is
down a side street and can be hard to find.
Rooms
Bare-bones and no frills
The rooms at Hotel Hacienda de Castilla are what’s to be
expected at these low prices. The rooms are all the same (standard) and come with two double beds or one king bed. Walls are painted light stucco yellow with minimal
art or decoration. The beds have thin and colorful orange tropical bedspreads.
The furniture is dark brown and non-descript with a headboard, desk, table and
two chairs, and side tables by the bed. Everything is simple here -- there are
no coffeemakers, irons or ironing boards, or alarm clocks in the rooms. The
rooms do come with two bottles of water and flat-screen TVs.The bathrooms are small with a separate toilet and stand-up
shower stall. The sink area has ample counter space and comes with some
toiletries, including a toothbrush and hand soap. Cosmetic issues include missing tiles in some of the bathrooms. Hot water can be spotty and guests have complained of a sewer smell in some of the bathrooms, though on our visit, we found the rooms to be clean and free of odors.
