Pros
- Five-minute drive to the Cancun airport; transfers included in the room rate
- Free Wi-Fi in throughout
- Free continental breakfast
- Rooftop hot tubs
- Restaurant serving all three meals, plus beer
- Auditorium space with room for up to 50 people
- Small pets allowed
Cons
- AC units can be noisy
- Directly on the highway; room views are of warehouses or billboards
- No gym or pool
- 30-minute drive from the Hotel Zone and downtown
- No nearby supermarkets or plazas
Bottom Line
This 65-room budget hotel near the airport has basic rooms with thin walls, noisy AC units, and views of billboards or warehouse buildings. The restaurant serves all three meals (including beer after 11 a.m.)., and both continental breakfast and transfers to the airport are free, making the hotel suited for short stopovers. Two rooftop hot tubs are an unexpected extra. Guests not in transit to or from the airport will find little reason to stay here. The nearby Courtyard by Marriott Cancun Airport is nicer but also more expensive.

A layover budget hotel right near the airport
The Comfort Inn Aeropuerto in Cancun is a fine choice for visitors in transit to or from the airport. While it is reasonably comfortable, and even includes a small business center with three computers, and an auditorium for up to 50 people, this is not a business-class or long-term hotel.
Just off the highway, the simple block-and-plaster building has a rounded front with glass windows looking out over the Hotel Zone, and a covered entryway. It stands out compared to the typical square or rectangular warehouse buildings directly adjacent. The lobby is sparsely decorated, with tile floors and sofas. Stairs lead up to the other floors or down to the parking garage, a hallway leads back to ground-level rooms, and an elevator can take you all the way up to the rooftop terrace.
While the views from the rooftop aren't amazing, there are two whirlpool tubs, showers, a couple of bathrooms, and an outdoor bar area that is not currently in regular use.
The started a six-month renovation in January of 2016 to add two more floors onto the building, as well as remodel and expand the existing restaurant.
Location
On a lonely stretch of highway near the airport
The area of Cancun near the airport is industrial, which means visitors should not expect colonial architecture or modern designs. Instead, the Comfort Inn is parked directly between a warehouse and loading docks on one side, and a car rental agency on the other, with billboards filling most of the skyline to the north and south. A Subway and a convenience store are within walking distance.
Airport transfers are included in the room rates, and most guests are only here for an overnight stay. For those who do need to go somewhere besides the airport, a bus stops outside the Central de Abastos corporate office and runs to the primary mall in downtown Cancun, Plaza las Americas; service is 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It is roughly a 20-minute ride, and from the mall travelers can go to other places in the city, or to the Hotel Zone. Taxis are also available.
Plaza La Roca is about 10 minutes away by taxi or bus, and there you can find a variety of shops, as well as a Walmart and La Europea liquor store.
Rooms
The bare minimum for a budget price, where the blinds are better left down
The Comfort Inn Aeropuerto Cancun has 65 Standard Rooms, with most of them featuring two double beds and seven featuring king-size beds.
The rooms are simply furnished with dark-wood desks and cream-and-orange walls and matching bedspreads. Bathrooms are functional, with basic tile showers, and individual packets of soap, shampoo, and conditioner.
There are reports from guests that the walls are paper-thin, allowing you to hear fellow visitors in adjacent quarters, and the air-conditioning units can be noisy. The views out the side windows are either billboards or warehouse buildings and loading docks.
Amenities include coffeemakers, hairdryers, in-room safes, and flat-screen TVs with basic cable.
Features
A full-service restaurant, and a rooftop terrace with two hot tubs
The on-site restaurant serves a basic continental breakfast and coffee every morning from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. (perhaps not starting early enough for those with morning flights). Lunch and dinner are served, with beer available after 11 a.m., but no wine or alcohol. There are two hot tubs on the roof, but they're not always heated.
There are roughly 25 underground parking spaces for guests. However, the parking garage should be used with caution: The ramp down to the underground area is positioned in such a way that you cannot simply drive back up. Instead, it has a hairpin turn at the bottom which, while navigable on the way down, requires one to literally parallel park along the wall at the bottom in order to align your vehicle for the drive up and out. Staffers at reception are known to help guests exit as it is a tricky turn.
Airport pickup is available 24 hours a day and included in the room price. The small business center features three computers and a printer, and the auditorium can be booked for school events, cocktail parties, or business meetings, and can fit up to 50 people.
Wi-Fi is included throughout the building, as is air-conditioning.
