Bottom Line

Villaggio degli Olivi is a favorite, upscale hotel with 100 rooms and a beautiful location on the beach, that's convenient to the main square. Half-board and all-inclusive options include tasty cuisine focusing on locally sourced ingredients. Guest rooms are cheerful and bright, with exposed beams and colorful paint; family-style flats are available with up to four beds. The rooftop pool with hot tub and children’s section has sea views, and there’s a private beach with lounge chairs and umbrellas. With an animation staff arranging activities, and a kids' club, there’s plenty to keep families busy here. It’s hard to beat this hotel in the area, but travelers who want a room-only option may want to check out the nearby Grand Hotel San Pietro.

Location

On Palinuro beach, walking distance to village center

The hotel is located on Palinuro beach which is famous for its natural caves. It’s also within walking distance to the main square of the village, where guests will find pubs, restaurants, ice cream parlors, and shops. Several excursions are organized by the hotel, including one to Pompeii, which is less than a two-and-a-half-hour drive. Naples Airport is less than a three-hour drive away.

Rooms

Rustic rooms, some with patios or balconies

Rooms are rustic with minimal decor, including brightly colored paint, clay-colored tile floors, and exposed beams. Bamboo headboards and chairs add a beachy feel, and patios with tables and chairs provide outdoor space for some rooms. There are no air conditioners, but there are ceiling fans, which work quite well. Rooms have small, tube-style TVs, mini-fridges, and tile bathrooms with stand-up showers. Family rooms with bunk beds and furnished tile balconies are available. Wi-Fi isn’t available in the rooms.

Features

Tasty cuisine, beautiful pool area with bar, and private beach

The pool area is simple and chic, with a wood deck and a pool bar serving snacks underneath a beautiful covered seating area with wood floors and white couches. The local dishes served at the hotel restaurant get high marks. There is a private beach with lounge chairs. PADI diving courses are available for a fee. The animation team organizes children’s activities, tournaments, and cabaret shows in Italian. The hotel has a combined court for tennis, soccer, and basketball. Tours are available to several locations for a fee, including Pompeii, Paestrum and the local grottos. Colorful yellow benches and green tables create an activity space inside the bright kids club, and outside there’s a foosball table and plastic play set for small children.

Scene

Olive trees, sea views, and outdoor breakfast

Villaggio degli Olivi has a scenic seaside setting surrounded by olive trees. Guests enter through a low clay-colored building into a lobby with pretty blue tiled floors, windows overlooking the sea, simple aquamarine couches, and leafy plants in clay pots. The grounds are lush and green, with lawns, olive trees, and colorful flower patches. It’s a steep climb down to the beach area where there’s a sandy area and lounge chairs with umbrellas. In the restaurant, local dishes are lined up buffet-style on colorful ceramic plates fit for a family dinner. The dining room is plain with blue and white linens and wood chairs, but an outdoor area under a huge, white umbrella offers beautiful sea views for diners enjoying their breakfast.
