Occupying an 1890 building, Hotel Jaccarino leans into its old structure with traditional decor that feels a bit like an Italian grandparents' house. The old-fashioned style features lots of patterns -- think pale-green and yellow floral sofas to red curtain valances -- as well as wood and wrought-iron furniture. Black-and-white photos, chandeliers, and gorgeous 100-year-old patterned tile add charm, while a fireplace creates a cozy atmosphere. Guests will either find the look dated or atmospheric, though decor takes a back seat to the views here. From the outdoor pool to the bar terrace to many rooms, the vistas of the Gulf of Naples, Mount Vesuvius and surrounding hills are gorgeous. The largely relaxed atmosphere is best for travelers who don't want to be in the heartbeat of Sorrento. Expect mostly couples in the summer months and groups in the low season.

This property is set just a few minutes' walk from the village of Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi, where there are several restaurants, churches, and stores. The buzzing town of Sorrento is a 20-minute drive away, home to numerous shops, sights, and delicious eateries, as well as a train station and port. The hotel provides free shuttle service throughout the day, though it's not offered on Sundays and costs money at night. An inexpensive local bus stops outside the hotel and runs to Sorrento. Naples and its airport are just over an hour away by car, while Rome can be reached in three hours. Travelers heading onward to the Amalfi Coast can reach Positano in roughly 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Free parking is available on-site.

The 85 rooms here are all done in a traditional style, with slightly varying decor depending on category. Most have blue tile floors, traditional wood furniture, and blue or tan patterned bedding with matching curtains. Beds have either fabric or wrought-iron headboards. Beige or peach walls have sconces and mirrors, plus small classic artwork in some. The spaces are simple but sufficient, but worn-looking at times. Not all units have outdoor spaces and most past guests agree that it's worth paying more for a room with a sea-view balcony. Standard amenities consist of flat-screen TVs, minibars, desks, air-conditioning, and closets with safes, but no kettles. Outdated bathrooms have blue tiling, shower stalls or shower/tub combos, bidets, hairdryers, and toiletries. Fixtures look like they could use replacing.

Features at Hotel Jaccarino make good use of the hilltop location, with sea views from many common areas. The highlight is certainly the well-sized outdoor pool, set on a terrace with several loungers, umbrellas, and an adjacent snack bar. The bar serves food and drink throughout the day from April to October. Off the lobby is a spacious bar with ample indoor seating, plus an outdoor terrace with dining tables and more sensational views. All meals are served in an indoor restaurant, which has panoramic windows overlooking the Gulf of Naples. Free continental buffet breakfasts are served here, though most guests find them average and a bit limited in their offerings.
