Hotel Herculaneum

While the outside doesn't look like much, the interiors of Hotel Herculaneum are a welcome surprise. Modern decor features a common black, white, and gray color scheme throughout. The lobby is rather small and can get a bit crowded when the hotel is busy. The space includes only a single reception desk and seating area with two chairs and a coffee table. Framed black-and-white photographs and artwork can be found throughout the lobby, hallways, breakfast area, and guest rooms. Little common space is available, apart from the breakfast room, which has lovely views overlooking the historical excavations across the road. The room's decor is mostly white, with white tablecloths on the tables, white chair covers, white walls, and gray curtains. Guests here are mostly leisure travelers looking to be close to the historical sites of the area.

Hotel Herculaneum is located on the central street of Ercolano, directly opposite the entrance to the historical excavations. There are numerous dining and shopping options within close walking distance from the hotel. It's a four-minute walk to Teatro di Herculaneum; eight-minute walk to the Antiquarium; and 10-minute walk to the Botanical Gardens. The hotel is located just in front of the Vesuvius mountains, and Vesuvius National Park is 12 minutes away by car. Ercolano is centrally located to reach nearby towns, including Pompeii (20-minute drive), Naples (30-minute drive), and Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast (both just over an hours drive). Note that there are no beaches in Ercolano. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel and the Ercolano Scavi Train Station is 12 minutes on foot while the Port of Granatello Portici is eight minutes by car. It's a half-hour drive to Naples International Airport.

The 19 guest rooms at Hotel Herculaneum are modern and bright. Decor is kept to the minimum with white walls, light gray curtains, colored tiled floors, white linens, glass tables with standard black chairs, full-length mirrors, and black and white artwork. Room variations include Single, Double, Triple, and Quadruple. The Triple and Quadruple Rooms are ideal for families with small kids. Amenities in all rooms include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, work desks, telephones, and free Wi-Fi. No in-room tea- and- coffee-making facilities are available. Bathrooms include either a walk-in shower or shower/tub combo (with shower curtain), hairdryers, and courtesy kits upon request (with toothbrushes, toothpaste, and shaving amenities). Selected rooms on the second and fifth floors have views of the excavations from a small balcony, while rooms on the ground floor have a small plant-enclosed terrace with furniture.

Hotel Herculaneum offers little more than standard features. There's a free continental buffet breakfast each morning that includes eggs, sausages, meats, cereals, yogurt, cakes and homemade pastries, and fresh fruit. There is no full restaurant or bar available on-site, however the hotel has partnered with a nearby restaurant for special rates. The reception staff assist with tourist information and local tour bookings. Valet parking services are available for a fee. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and there's an internet-connected computer with printing facilities.
