Bottom Line

Located on the sea and within a short walk to the main square, the Grand Hotel San Pietro is an upper-mid-range hotel with 48 rooms and a convenient location. The hotel has a beautiful infinity pool facing the sea and a private rocky beach. There’s also a restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine and a free breakfast with Italian pastries. The furnishings in the rooms are dated but charming (with touches such as ceramics and carved wood); Wi-Fi is free and rooms have beautiful sea views from balconies. The hotel is a good option for travelers seeking a quiet escape, but the rocky beach has a ladder providing access to the sea, which may not be a good fit for small children. For families, the nearby Villaggio degli Olivi is an all-inclusive option with tasty cuisine, a kids' club, and animation staff.

Scene

Quiet hotel with gorgeous sea views

A paved street lined with local cafes and a market leads to the hotel's large brick parking lot with gorgeous views of the sea and surrounding cliffs. Inside, there's a breezy ocean feel. The lobby has clay-colored tile floors and minimalist blue, yellow, and green couches; a charming front desk is decorated in blue and white tiles. The white building housing the rooms slopes toward the sea, allowing rooms to have balconies with views of the water. The infinity pool is the jewel of the hotel, where guests can enjoy the views of the sea and surrounding cliffs. The bar has indoor and outdoor seating under a pergola. Below, the rocky beach has some flat areas with yellow umbrellas and lounge chairs, and a ladder providing access from the rocky shore into the sea.

Location

On beach within walking distance to restaurants, pubs, and shops

Located on the beach with a view of Cape Palinuro and Capo d'Arena, the hotel is a quiet and tranquil retreat. It’s also within walking distance to the main square of the village where guests will find pubs, restaurants, ice cream parlors, and shops. Naples Airport is less than a three-hour drive away. Guests can join boat tours and diving excursions to underwater caves in the area, organized by the hotel.

Rooms

Colorful tile floors and beautiful sea views, but dated furnishings

Rooms have balconies with mostly spectacular sea views, though some are obscured by a parking lot and abandoned building. Inside decor varies; some rooms have green tiled floors with green couches and chairs, while others have blue tiled floors with blue curtains and white bedspreads. The furniture and bedspreads are in need of an upgrade, but some of the older furnishings -- like carved wooden mirrors -- are charming. The colorful tile work is carried into the bathrooms. All rooms have plasma TVs with satellite and pay-per-view channels, free (spotty) Wi-Fi, and mini-fridges. Deluxe rooms with hot tubs and wine coolers are available.

Features

Mediterranean restaurant, infinity pool, and spa

The hotel has an infinity pool and a private beach. A free breakfast buffet is provided including pastries, fruit, and cold meats, and the restaurant serves local dishes and Mediterranean cuisine in an indoor and outdoor seating area. There’s also a bar with indoor and outdoor seating under a pergola. The small spa offers facial and body treatments, nail services, massages, a sauna, and a Scottish shower. A simple conference room with a light wood table and audio-visual equipment is available, and can accommodate up to 200 people. Parking is free at the hotel, as is Wi-Fi -- though past guests have complained about nonexistent signals. The staff can arrange boat trips and airport transfers for an additional fee.
