Grand Hotel Angiolieri

The site where Grand Hotel Angiolieri sits has a long history, originally being an ancient Roman villa dating to 100 BC, followed by a convent, and a renowned hotel. The current property opened in 2006 after extensive renovations, drawing visitors with its sleek design and hilltop location overlooking the sea, Mount Vesuvius, and surrounding landscape. Most common areas take advantage of the hotel's position, with scenic terraces found at the pool, restaurant, bar, and rooftop hot tub. Common areas have a mix of modern and traditional decor, with lots of white marble, patterned rugs, chandeliers, and two-tone photographs. Clean lines and mostly neutral fabrics give the property a sleek look. Two particularly striking elements are a large pot acting as a fountain feature by the entrance, and a statue of Pulcinella, a traditional Neapolitan figure, by the pool. Rooms, however, are a bit more simple and traditional, though attractive.

This hotel is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and it's primarily frequented by couples on vacation, though families also come here. It's worth consider Villa Garden Hotel, which has a more central location near Sorrento.  

This hotel has a great location for stellar views, thanks to its hilltop setting overlooking the sea and surrounding area. However, it's a seven-minute drive from the nearest town, Vico Equense, and there's little of interest int he immediate surrounds. Travelers can walk down to the marina in about 10 minutes via steps, but the climb back is steep and difficult for some. Free shuttle service is provided to the marina and town center throughout the day. The Seiano train station is about a 14-minute walk away. Sorrento is about a 24-minute drive away, while Naples can be reached in an hour. 

The 36 rooms are individually decorated, though done in a similarly traditional style. Gorgeous patterned ceramic tiles, old-fashioned wood furniture, and white walls with landscape artwork create simple but attractive spaces, and some units add four-poster canopy beds, arched ceilings, and vibrant bedding. Entry-level rooms have windows overlooking the hillside, while Superior Rooms and up overlook the Bay of Naples. Only some Deluxe units and higher have furnished terraces. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, minibars, flat-screen TVs, free bottled water, and wardrobes with safes. Bathrooms have jetted tubs with handheld showerheads or showers, hairdryers, free toiletries, and bidets. Some past guests have complained that there's no wall mount for the showerhead. 

Suites add separate sitting areas. Additionally, guests can download a free app for access to several digital newspapers. 

Grand Hotel Angiolieri offers ample leisure and dining facilities for guests. A popular daytime spot is the narrow outdoor infinity pool, lined with cushioned loungers and a handful of umbrellas. Pretty sea views are available here, though they're a bit obstructed by a statue. Better vistas are available on the rooftop terrace, where an above-ground hot tub, loungers, dining sets, and umbrellas are set up. There are no full spa or gym here, but a treatment room can be booked for massages and facials. 

This hotel shines when it comes to food, particularly with its Michelin-guided restaurant L'Accanto. The eatery has a sophisticated, light dining room, and an al fresco terrace with sensational panoramic views. Food receives top marks, though expect high prices. For more casual dining, a year-round pizzeria is on-site, and an outdoor bar across from reception serves free welcome drinks, alcoholic beverages, and meals during the day. All rates include a quality breakfast buffet with freshly made pastries. Cooking classes and wine tastings can be arranged on-site. Live music is provided a couple of times per week in peak season. Guests can also sit and explore the terraced herb garden growing citrus trees and chiles.

Wedding and event spaces are on-site, and both property-wide Wi-Fi and parking are free.
