Sol Port Cambrils

Tryp Port Cambril attracts a mix of international couples and Spanish families looking for a simple poolside holiday. The hotel’s low-ceilinged lobby feels like it has seen better days, with blue stone floors and low-slung, blue-suede sofas, glass coffee tables, and rows of square columns covered in faux wood. This dated look continues into the similarly decorated restaurant, with rows of blonde-wood tables topped with pink-checkered runners. An outdoor bar terrace is more attractive, outfitted with fake grass, contemporary wooden seating with cream cushions, and parasols. The terra-cotta pool terrace gets lots of sun and tends to be where most guests congregate. 

Only a five-minute walk away from Cambrils' beach and the town’s yacht club, the Tryp Port Cambrils has a great location. It's a seven-minute walk to the historic center of town, where there are a number of shops, bars, and restaurants. Guests looking for classier shops, though, might do well to drive the 20 minutes to Tarragona, where there is also a cathedral and Roman ruins. For guests with kids looking for a thrill, PortAventura, a water and theme park, is a 12-minute drive away. Expect transfers to Reus Airport to take between 15 and 20 minutes.

The 156 rooms in the Tryp Port Cambril are clean and contemporary, though simplistic in design. They have blonde-wood floors and furniture, a blue-gray feature wall behind the beds, and armchair upholstered in red fabric. Rooms have furnished balconies or terraces, but some have poor views. Another downside is that some rooms face a nearby train track that can be noisy. Lower-category Tryp Rooms come with a small table, desk and chair, and wardrobes. Family Rooms have a bunk bed in one corner, while Junior Suites are far larger, offering a living area that has a sofa and armchair, as well as bunk beds. Attractive bathrooms have green-marble tiles, a bidet, and shower/tub combo, while suites also have a separate shower stall. All rooms have a flat-screen TV, safe, minibar, and free Wi-Fi, as well as a hairdryer and free toiletries. 

The hotel has a list of amenities primarily targeted at vacationing tourists with kids. A small lap pool is set on a sunny terra-cotta terrace, next to a smaller shallow pool for children. Children can also be entertained during the day in the kids' club, which runs throughout high season. Meals are served in the buffet restaurant, and food receives mostly positive reviews for quality and quantity. Drinks, cocktails and light snacks are available in both the lobby bar and pool bar, where there is live music in the evenings. Guests looking to work up a sweat can make use of the small but modern gym, which has cardio machines, free weights, and a sauna. There are a total of 10 meeting rooms of various shapes and sizes, the largest of which can hold 400 people. Electric bikes are available for rent, and there is secure underground parking, although a charge applies for its use. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout.
