Scene

Budget motel with seasonal outdoor pool for families and Yosemite visitors

The Comfort Inn is housed in a two-floor motel building on grounds that are rather pretty for a budget property, with trees, flowers, shrubs, and a bench for guests to sit and relax. Cheap, dated furniture characterizes the lobby, while the breakfast room features dark-wood cupboards and is more attractive, but it can get a bit crowded during peak hours. A wide range of guests, including couples, families with kids, tour groups, and international travelers, make their way here for affordable rooms and value-added amenities, plus the hotel's central Oakhurst location.

Location

Central Oakhurst location near restaurants, a 25-minute drive from Yosemite

The Comfort Inn is on Highway 41 in central Oakhurst in an area with restaurants, bars, shops, and a supermarket. The Oakhurst Best Western bus stop is a two-minute walk for access to the surrounding area. Guests planning excursions in the area can walk a little less than five minutes to reach the Visit Yosemite/Madera County Visitors Center. Children’s Museum of the Sierra is a five-minute stroll, while Oakhurst Community Park is five minutes by car or a 10-minute walk. Other area attractions include Golden Chain Theatre and Fresno Flats Historical Park (both three minutes by car), Bass Lake (a 10-minute drive or 15 minutes by bus), and the Yosemite Sugar Pine Railroad (a 15-minute drive). The south entrance of Yosemite National Park is 25 minutes by car, and the Yosemite Valley floor is about 90 minutes away. Fresno Yosemite International Airport is a little less than an hours' drive from the Comfort Inn.

Rooms

Simple but spacious, with mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffee/tea makers

Guest rooms at the Comfort Inn have a simple, contemporary look, with a certain visual appeal. There's dark-wood furniture and a warm color palette of tan, muted brown, burnt-orange, and dark green. Standard amenities in the 117 rooms include flat-screen TVs with HBO, coffeemakers, microwaves, and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms have mini-fridges, and for those that don’t, guests can request them from the front desk. Views are nothing special in most units, but a few rooms have partial views of the mountains. Bathrooms come with hairdryers and shower/tub combos, and vanities are en-suite.

Features

Seasonal pool and hot tub and free hot breakfast buffet, but no fitness room

The highlight among amenities at this hotel is the small freeform outdoor pool, bordered by a deck with sun loungers and a small hot tub. The pool is open seasonally and is unheated, but the water is shallow so in warmer weather the temperature is almost always comfortable enough for a swim. Another perk is the free breakfast buffet, which is well-liked by most guests and features an ample spread of scrambled eggs, sausages, and a wide range of cold items. Outdoor seating is available in warm weather. The dining room is a bit small, so it tends to get quite crowded in the summer high season. Free coffee is available 24 hours a day. The hotel has no restaurant for lunch and dinner, but there are several restaurants within a short walk of the hotel. There's also no fitness room. The on-site gift shop has an excellent range of items for purchase, including Yosemite-related items. A 24-hour front desk, lobby computer, free on-site parking, and free Wi-Fi throughout round out the property's features. Up to two pets are allowed per room for a nightly per-pet fee.
