Scene

Resort-like ambience and plenty of outdoor space

Like many other luxury properties in and around Cairo, the style at the JW Mariott is high-end and traditional -- don't expect any sleek, super-contemporary interiors here. Instead, the hotel takes a classic approach to decor, with polished marble floors in a variety of colors, artfully deployed Egyptian lanterns, fountains, potted plants, handsome clusters of seating, and a grand piano. A large, sweeping staircase and replicas or famous paintings add to the grand feel. The property has a large amount of outdoor space, meaning that it rarely feels busy, as guests are frequently spread out throughout the grounds, which have a resort-like scale to them. There are plenty of activities on offer, but many choose to relax on the benches that surround the on-site lake, or on a lounge chair at the hotel's man-made beach. The hotel attracts a range of visitors from across the world, but most are couples or families wanting a relaxed vacation, with plenty of business travelers staying here as well.

Location

East of the city center, near New Cairo

The hotel is located on the ring road that surrounds Cairo. It’s on the
eastern side of the road, bordering the developing area of New Cairo, which is home to
the Cairo Festival City Mall, a large shopping complex with plenty of restaurants that also houses KidZania, a popular attraction for families. The mall is
around a 15-minute drive from the hotel. Despite being off the busy ring road,
the hotel is well set back from it and has a private entrance that keeps it isolated from traffic noise. It’s a popular location for those wanting to be away
from the loud and crowded center of Cairo, though the long drive times mean a car or some other type of transport is a necessity here. The pyramids and the Great Sphinx of
Giza are the area’s most popular attractions. These take 30 and 40-minutes to
reach by car, respectively, though traffic means drive times can vary widely. Cairo International Airport is a 20-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Handsome rooms with traditional style plus marble bathrooms and balconies

Guest rooms at the JW Marriott are grand and handsome -- guests can expect to see wood-paneled
walls, patterned carpets, marble inlay foyers, and gilt-framed mirrors. Not all guests will appreciate the look, though the rich decor is pretty standard for hotels in this category in Cairo. Bright wall art is a nice touch alongside heavy hardwood furniture. Rooms are available in a large number of categories, ranging from Deluxe Rooms which have furnished terraces that look out over the
artificial beach or the golf course, to the enormous Presidential Suite
which has two balconies, a library, and three bathrooms. All rooms include minibars, irons and ironing boards, safes, desks, free mineral water
and fruit, tea- and coffee- making facilities, balconies, air-conditioning, and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels. The marble bathrooms feel opulent and
elegant. They are spacious and have a separate shower stall and deep bath tub, with sharp antique-style fixtures and premium toiletries.

Features

Lots of activities available on-site and plentiful dining options

The hotel has a large variety of sport and leisure activities on offer
for its guests, including tennis, volleyball, and use of its own golf course.
An artificial beach has also been created with a pool made to look like the
sea, and there are two other outdoor pools plus an indoor pool at the spa too. There’s a spacious fitness center with modern cardio and weight-training equipment, as well as plenty of outdoor space
including a lake and lush green gardens. The kids' club and children's
playground are useful for families. There are no less than 12 places to eat and drink on-site -- furthering the resort vibes here -- and the range of cuisines includes Italian, Asian, and Lebanese restaurants among others. Meals like breakfast are not included with most room rates. Business
guests have excellent facilities too; there are 29 event rooms and a business
center. The hotel also provides free airport transfers and free Wi-Fi.
