Pros
- Pretty beach is one of the D.R.’s best for windsurfing and kitesurfing
- Just a 10-minute walk from downtown’s shops, restaurants, and bars
- Uncrowded beach and pool offer plenty of lounge chairs
- Rooms are spacious, with flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers
- All-inclusive activities such as some water sports, tennis, and beach volleyball
- Nightly entertainment takes place at the on-site theater
- Kids’ club includes a large playground
Cons
- No in-room liquor
- Fee for use of in-room safe
- Fee for Wi-Fi in the business center
Bottom Line
The only all-inclusive resort in Cabarete, the mid-range Wyndham Tangerine stands out for its location; it's on one of the D.R.’s best beaches for water sports, and is just a 10-minute walk from downtown’s shops, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. Rooms are basic but beachy, and there are annoying fees for extras such as Wi-Fi and use of the in-room safes. Nonetheless, this calm property attracts budget-minded couples and families who don’t mind skimping on luxe decor in favor of affordable rates.

Small, quiet property is the only all-inclusive in Cabarete
The Viva Wyndham is the only all-inclusive option in Cabarete, and some guests choose the property for its combination of all-inclusive rates and a convenient location, within walking distance of downtown and just a 20-minute drive from the airport. Compared to the large chain properties such as Riu and Lifestyle Holidays, Viva Wyndham is relatively small and not quite as upscale. Yet this makes for a tranquil vibe, a manageable size, and affordable rates. Wyndham’s beach is also arguably better than those at more expensive chains, and it attracts budget-minded families and couples.
Location
On one of the D.R.’s top beaches for windsurfing and kitesurfing
The highlight of this property is certainly its location. Not only does it sit on one of the D.R.’s best beaches for activities such as windsurfing and kite-surfing, but it is just a 10-minute walk from the downtown area of Cabarete. Home to shops, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, Cabarete is a fun, lively town that’s worth a trip off the property’s grounds.
The airport is also close in comparison to other resorts. A 20-minute drive away, it costs about $30 USD in a cab each way.
Rooms
The 273 rooms are basic, but have some cheerful beachy accents.
Rooms at the Wyndham Tangerine are spacious, and have been updated with sizable flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers. They are quite basic, but the blue accent walls and bed runners help give them a beachy vibe. Just note that extras such as Wi-Fi, in-room liquor, and use of the safes all come at an extra cost. Most rooms have balconies or patios, but not all. All, however, do come equipped with irons and ironing boards and minifridges with bottled water.
Superior Plus rooms are a step above the standard Superior rooms, and are clustered around a small private pool exclusive to those staying in Plus rooms. There are just a few Junior Suites available; these feature separate living rooms and whirlpool tubs.
Features
The highlight here is the beach, which is extremely popular for kitesurfing.
Like most all-inclusives, Viva Wyndham offers plenty of on-site activities. Guests can play tennis or beach volleyball, visit the spa, workout in the small fitness center (although with just a few dated cardio and weight-training machines, it’s subpar), swim in one of a handful of pristine pools, or take up water sports on the beach, which is considered one of the D.R.’s best for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Neither the beach nor the pools get very crowded, so there are always lounge chairs available for guests. Family-minded amenities include a large kids’ club, with a beachside playground, and a game room.
Food at the Wyndham is average, which is about what you can expect for a mid-range all-inclusive property. The main buffet restaurant is open for all meals; there are also two a la carte restaurants (one Mexican and one Italian) that serve dinner. Both require reservations. A theater provides nightly entertainment, and several on-site bars offer cocktails made with bottom-shelf liquor.
