Bottom Line

Located
in the heart of Buenos Aires, trendy Rochester Hotel Classic is just two blocks from Florida
Street’s shopping, dining, and entertainment. The cool, contemporary style of
the hotel’s public areas is reflected in its 119 guest rooms, which are equipped with minibars and flat-screen TVs. The upper-middle-range hotel offers a restaurant with international cuisine, a sleek cocktail bar, room service, and a spacious fitness center. However, breakfast and Wi-Fi are not included in room rates, and some of the guest rooms have noisy air-conditioners or get street noise. For free breakfast, check rates at the neighboring sister hotel, Rochester Hotel Concept, but except smaller guest rooms.

Scene

Vibrant and modern, with trendy touches and sleek surfaces

The entrance to this trendy city center hotel is through sliding glass
doors. On entering the large lobby, the high-gloss white reception desk greets guests, with three interesting white ceiling lights hanging above it. The contemporary feel
continues further down the room where there are dark gray walls, overhead spotlights, and
minimalist-style sofas in bright orange and teal. An oblong wooden table with skinny metal legs, and and a pair of modernized butterfly chairs complete the stylish space. At the back of the room is
the lobby bar, where there's a vibrant blue photographic mural on the wall. There are also a good number of white tables and chairs, which contrast a glossy finish with natural wood legs and, like the rest of the furnishings, are minimalist in style. Clean white walls and light wood laminate flooring do brighten the bar area, which also contains the business center, but the low ceilings give the space something of a basement feel. Nonetheless, the hotel has a bustling vibe with people of all ages checking in and out, and making use of the lobby and bar seating areas.

Location

Centrally located and ideal for sightseeing

The hotel is well located, right in the heart of Buenos Aires, and just
a five-minute walk from the Florida subway station. The fashionable shops and restaurants of Florida
Street are just two blocks away, and it's a five-minute walk to the famous
Teatro Colon arts venue. It's around a 10- to 15-minute walk to the stunning Catedral
Metropolitana, Plaza de Mayo, and Parque Colon. Also around a 10-minute walk from the
hotel are two popular museums, the Museo Historico Nacional del Cabildo y la
Revolucion de Mayo, and the Museo Mundial del Tango.

Rooms

Stylish and modern, with air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs

The 119 guest rooms at the Rochester Classic have stylish, contemporary decor that feels of-the-moment. They have dark wood laminate flooring and
furniture, and cream walls offset by brightly colored feature walls behind the beds. Atop each bed is a striped throw in bright pinks, yellows, and teals.
Each room has air-conditioning, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, safe, minibar, and desk. The bathrooms have shower/tub combos with deep bathtubs and glass doors, and hairdryers and toiletries come as standard. The Deluxe Room is huge with a separate living room, and a bathroom with double
basin and large double rainfall shower. The hotel also offers rooms with two
bedrooms for families or groups, and these are equipped with microwaves. Rooms at
the back are mostly quiet, but those facing the street can be quite noisy. Some Standard Rooms also feel cramped, and guests complain that air-conditioning units are loud.

Features

Restaurant and fitness center on-site, but breakfast and Wi-Fi cost extra

The breakfast buffet offers a wide range of hot and cold items -- it’s
worth noting, though, that it’s not included in room rates. The same
goes for the hotel’s Wi-Fi, which is only free in the lobby. There’s a good restaurant on-site, the Victoria,
which serves Argentinian and international dishes. Room service is available
24 hours, too, and for drinks there’s a small bar in the lobby. The business center, with a PC for guest use, is in the bar area. The modern
fitness center is split over two levels and has a good range of equipment
including weights, exercise bikes, and treadmills. Business guests can make use
of the hotel’s meeting room.
