The Mio Buenos Aires is a 30-room, luxury boutique hotel in Buenos Aires's popular and affluent Recoleta district, within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, and attractions. Guest rooms are spacious and feature chic, modern decor with natural wood elements and modern amenities such as Nespresso coffeemakers and speaker systems with iPod docks. Bathrooms have rainfall showerheads, and some rooms even feature hand-carved wood bathtubs. The hotel also has its own spa with two treatment rooms and a small indoor, heated pool and fitness area. A library/lounge and lobby bar offer guests a place to relax, and the on-site restaurant and bar serves gourmet international cuisine. While not quite as luxurious as some nearby five-pearl properties such as the Palace Duhau, the Mio's lower room rates make it an attractive option.
Scene
Chic, modern boutique hotel featuring beautiful natural-wood elements
The upscale Mio Buenos Aires is situated in a thin, 12-story building with a gray facade, gently arched windows, and wrought-iron balconies. The entryway features a huge door made of French oak wine barrels. Inside the decor is chic, modern, and subdued, with beautiful natural wood elements that create a calming, organic atmosphere. In the lobby bar, red and gray velvety armchairs stand out against a dark-tiled floor, while a tree-carved wooden bar creates earthy charm. There's also a small outdoor sitting area with a fountain and a butterfly sculpture, and work from emerging artists is displayed throughout the property. Sophisticated, elegant, and well-located, this hotel is a hotspot drawing vacationing couples.
Location
In the central Recoleta district, a four-minute walk from the Recoleta Cemetery
Situated on a safe and relatively quiet street in Buenos Aires' popular and affluent Recoleta district, this hotel is exceptionally well-located in easy walking distance to restaurants, cafes, shops, and attractions. Recoleta Cemetery, Plaza Francia, Alvear Art Gallery, and MNBA (National Museum of Fine Arts) are all less than 10 minutes away on foot. Attractions not in walking distance tend to be a short taxi ride away -- the MALBA (Latin American Museum of Art of Buenos Aires), Obelsco, Plaza de Mayo, Casa Rosada, and Teatro Colon are about a 10- to 15-minute drive from the hotel, though this can take longer in traffic. It's a 15-minute drive to Jorge Newbery Airport and a 45-minute drive to Ezeiza International Airport. The hotel offers airport transfers for a fee.
Rooms
Spacious, modern rooms with natural wood elements and Nespresso coffeemakers
Rooms at the Mio Buenos Aires are large and clean, with modern, understated decor and earthy details. Rich wood floors meet white walls, while white bedding and red accents provide contrast for dark, angular wooden furniture. Walls might feature a piece of modern art or black-and-white framed photos, while some rooms have soft purple rugs or cushions for a little flair. Rooms are huge, and even the entry-level Executive and Deluxe Rooms are big. Beds have premium Frette Italian sheets and down comforters, and rooms are easy to sleep in thanks to blackout drapes, soundproofed windows, and individually controlled heat and air-conditioning. Each room has -- at a minimum -- a living area with two chairs, a desk, an LED TV with a DVD player as well as cable and premium channels, and an iPod dock with a speaker system. Rooms also have Nespresso coffeemakers, minibars, safes, and yoga mats. Bathrooms vary from room to room, but most are stylish and have square, slot-drain sinks; hairdryers; toiletries; and wet-room style showers with rainfall showerheads. However, some guests complain that the translucent glass bathroom doors don't lend much privacy. One of the hotel's primary selling points is its beautiful, individually crafted bathtubs carved from calden trees by artist Mario Dasso. These bathtubs tend to sit open in the bedrooms or living rooms, but not all rooms have them. Room service is available during limited hours, and housekeeping comes daily.
Features

The hotel has its own stylish spa with two treatment rooms, a steam room with gray-stone walls, a bar, and a small, indoor heated pool. The fitness area is tiny but pleasant, with a treadmill, an elliptical, and a stationary bike, but there's no weight-lifting equipment or free weights apart from a single barbell.Guests rave about the on-site restaurant and bar -- Sivela 465 -- which serves upscale, international cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A separate lobby bar is open when the restaurant is closed. The hotel serves a free breakfast buffet each morning with breads, cereals, fresh fruit, and made-to-order eggs. Room service is also available, but hours are limited. The stylish library/lounge gives guests a place to relax with couches and armchairs, reading material, and backgammon.
