Bottom Line

The mid-range Malabia House Hotel is a quaint boutique property with only 14 rooms. It's housed in a charming 19th-century building on a tree-lined, cobblestone street in Palermo Soho, an upscale shopping and dining-focused neighborhood. Rooms are bright and cozy, and one has a big balcony, but four of the rooms have bathrooms situated down the hall (though they are private). Breakfast is included and served until late in the day, and there's a business center with a computer, free Wi-Fi, and a couple of library/lounges that guests can use. Note that kiddos aren't allowed at the hotel. Travelers looking for a spot with a pool may want to consider the nearby Mine Hotel Boutique, which has an outdoor pool and also serves breakfast until late, but for a fee.

Scene

Cozy boutique hotel with beautiful courtyards full of vines and fountains

This mid-range boutique hotel is located in a small, charming house that dates back to 1896. The interiors mix modern detailing such as slate-gray walls and contemporary furniture and artwork with classical elements such as a crystal chandelier and crown molding, plus pincushion sofas and chairs with gold frames and rich upholstery. While interiors are lovely for lounging on cooler days, there are also three outdoor courtyard areas full of vines, ferns, and fountains that are arguably the most attractive features of the hotel. It's a good choice for couples and friends looking for a comfortable place to stay in a chic part of the city, but children are not allowed here.

Location

Excellent location on a cobblestone street in Palermo Soho, a short walk to Plazoleta Cortazar

Malabia House sits on a bright, tree-lined street with cobblestoned sidewalks in Palermo Soho, a hip area full of upscale boutiques and restaurants. Most of the shops and restaurants are centered around Plazoleta Cortazar, a five-minute walk away, which is a late-night gathering spot for those coming and going from the bars. The hotel is a five-minute drive to the Carlos Thays Botanical Gardens, a six-minute drive to the zoo, and a seven-minute drive to the Evita Museum, a museum dedicated to Eva Peron's life. Both the Museum of Fine Arts Eduardo Sivori and MALBA (Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires) are 10 minutes away by car. It's a 20-minute drive to the domestic Jorge Newbery Airport, though traffic can make the trip take considerably longer. Getting to Ezeiza International Airport takes around 50 minutes without traffic.

Rooms

Bright rooms with minibars and flat-screen TVs, though some have bathrooms located down the hall

The 14 guest rooms are modern and bright, with homey interiors full of light-wood finish decor and a good selection of amenities, including individual heating and air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, safes, minibars, and free Wi-Fi, but no coffee- and tea-making facilities. There are three entry-level Classic Rooms, all of which measure 16 square meters (172 square feet) and have bathrooms outside of the rooms down the hall, but they are still private, with one assigned bathroom per guest room. Modern Rooms are the same size but have colorful accent walls in deep, muted colors. Modern Rooms also feature snug en-suite bathrooms with tiny showers, toilets, and bidets, and small hairdryers and cosmetic mirrors are provided. There's also a Balcony Room at the front of the house that measures 24 square meters (258 square feet) and has a huge balcony, but like the Classic Rooms, its dedicated bathroom is located down the hall. Overall, rooms are pleasant and cozy, though the walls are thin and there have been complaints of noise. Some of the double beds consist of two narrow twin-size beds pushed together, which might make traveling less comfortable for couples.

Features

Free breakfast with special diet requests available, free Wi-Fi, and two library/lounges

Amenities are limited, but there is a free continental breakfast, served daily until late in the morning. The spread is served with coffee and espresso, and the hotel can cater to special diets on request. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and there's a small business center with lavender-hued walls and a computer and printer for guest use. There are also a couple of casual meeting lounges/libraries (one on the ground floor and one just above it) with rich decor in hues of purple and gray in one, and red and gray in the other. There's not a fitness center, but there is a gym a couple of blocks away that guests can use if they're willing to pay a day fee. The front desk is staffed around the clock and staff can help with basic concierge services and arranging airport transfers.
