Scene

Clean, value apartment complex with simple but modern furnishings

Mango Aparthotel and Spa is a clean, modern, centrally located Budapest apartment building with value rates that attract business travelers and tourists alike. The seven-floor hotel, however, is no-frills and lacks unique design elements. The hallways have polished white-tile floors and white walls and there are two modern elevators and a classically designed staircase featuring old-fashioned iron railings and wooden-framed windows. The glass lobby door is accessible from the downstairs courtyard and near parked bike rentals and food truck vendors. The small reception area is homey with wooden floors, free coffee, and a comfy sofa.

Location

In the heart of Budapest, along the Danube River

Tucked in Budapest’s city center, in the Jewish district, the hotel is located on a quiet block near lots of restaurants, bars, and shops. A few blocks away is the Dohany Street Synagogue and the Hungarian State Opera. The Danube River, the Vaci utca and Andrassy ut shopping districts are also within walking distance. The Fisherman's Bastion is 20 minutes by public transportation. The Hungarian Parliament Building and Heroes’ Square are 15 minutes by metro. The Budapest-Deli Palyaudvar train station takes 10 minutes by car, while the Budapest-Nyugati Railway Terminal is a 20-minute walk. It’s a 24-minute drive to the Budapest Airport.

Rooms

Large, modern apartments with living rooms, kitchens, flat-screen TVs, and balconies

The hotel offers studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments with dining rooms, living rooms, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, vacuum cleaners, irons/ironing boards, and balconies with plastic patio furniture and views of the streets or other buildings. Cribs are available on request. Kitchens have microwaves, dish soap, refrigerators, dishwashers, coffeemakers, kettles, and toasters. Bathrooms have hairdryers, washing machines, shower/tub combos, and heated towel racks. Housekeeping changes towels every three days and bedding every seven days. Air-conditioning, while available in all apartments, costs extra. Note that noise from nearby bars can be audible in some rooms, especially on weekends. Apartments are contemporary, clean, and homey. The overall look is a tad plain, especially in the bedrooms -- expect light wood floors, laminate furnishings, and white walls with little artwork, but the hotel refurbished after our visit. Some rooms added grey patterned accent walls and sleek wooden headboards in the bedrooms, as well as gray or magenta carpets in the living area, replacing the heavy black and dark grey carpets we saw.

Features

Concierge service, breakfast discounts, and a luggage room

Although breakfast is not included in room rates, Mango Aparthotel and Spa offers guests breakfast discounts at a cafe located on the ground floor. The 24-hour front desk will also assist with arranging sightseeing tours, booking tickets, or renting cars and bicycles. A secured luggage room and safe deposit boxes are available in the reception area, and there’s also an on-site parking garage available for a charge. The building also has a modern gym and spa with saunas, a hot tub, and a pool, but it costs extra and is only available to guests 18 and over.
