Quirky design in rooms may not be to everyone’s taste
The 50-room Iberostar Grand Hotel Budapest is an upscale boutique situated in the heart of the Pest side of town. A late 19th-century building retrofitted with sleek design elements, this hotel has quirky, contemporary common areas including the lobby with multicolored fluorescent tube lighting and oversize chairs with curlicue flourishes. There is a hot tub along with wet and dry saunas in the spa. Polished rooms have pops of red along with chrome bathroom fixtures, LED bedside lamps, and Lavazza coffeemakers. The eclectic design aesthetic might not be to everyone's taste, but most guests rave about the room comfort, food quality in the on-site Spanish restaurant, and excellent location.
Scene
Contemporary hotel set in a 19th-century stone building
While preserving the interior architecture of the original building -- molded ceilings, doric columns supporting the entryway -- the Iberostar Grand Hotel Budapest abounds with fun design including white crushed velvet settees, oversize wingback chairs, and fluorescent tube lighting encircling some of the windows looking into the lobby atrium. The sleek lobby is lined with brick walls and set with fanciful, low-hanging chandeliers. Tourists as well as business travelers tend to be the most regular guests, given the central location. This classy hotel pays attention to the details, right down to the light fragrance they pump into the building.
Location
A few minutes' walk from St Stephen’s Basilica, the Chain Bridge, and the Parliament Building
Set directly across the street from a small city park and square, this hotel is ideally located for walking to the popular tourist destinations on the Pest side of town. A bus that leads directly to the castle district is about four blocks from the hotel, which is situated on a fairly calm street surrounded by residential buildings and diplomatic offices. Many bars and restaurants are within easy walking distance.
Rooms
Modern rooms with rain showerheads, ceramic freestanding tubs, and LED lighting displays behind the bed
Red velour couches and ottomans, black mosaic bathroom tiling, and glass surfaces give a dramatic flair to these modern rooms, which have separate walk-in showers and freestanding ceramic tubs with small wood reading trays. The fun design elements continue in the rooms, which may have flowery white canopies, leather tufted headboards, or a multicolor light display recessed behind the bed. All rooms have Lavazza coffeemakers, LED reading lights, a digital safe, a hairdryer, rain showerheads, a fully stocked minibar, lots of outlets, Gilchrist & Soames toiletries, an iron and board, a built-in wood writing desk, and a recessed flat-screen TV. Larger rooms have a separate living area.

The Spanish restaurant serves a breakfast buffet also in Spanish style, with fresh fruit and vegetables, a variety of sausages and local cheese, sparkling wine, freshly squeezed orange juice, and good coffee.
